Nice old world charm, well maintained, quiet, warm.Easy walk to restaurants and pubs. Friendly helpful host. Nice garden to relax in, lovely gardens at front. Situated on quiet side street, with a nice park across the road. Great local wines at wineries, restaurants and big choice at Kelly's pub off-licence.

We arrived in Orange late in the evening and were warmly greeted by our host Sally upon arrival.
We were shown our room which was beautifully appointed - I loved the attention to detail in keeping with the houses era but including the necessary mod cons. I loved the bathroom. The house is full of beautiful antiques and fine works of art. Oh how I admired them. The best part is that Camelia Cottage is only 1 block from the main shopping precinct and cafes, seriously yum. We took time out to read the Sunday papers in the cottage garden in the glorious spring sunshine - truly lovely, full of blooming camellias.
Will I come back, absolutely!! Thank you

Room Tip: The Wingello Room was beautiful - loved the north facing sunny bathroom

Camellia cottage is a beautiful home with delightful front garden and picket fence. Rooms big, clean and nicely lit. However, we stayed for 3 nights and the first night we had the place all to ourselves and the owner. The owner was happy to chat about info on the area and where to go. She lives at the end of the house. Our first night was comfortable and in our room was a bath - being on the road for 2 1/2 weeks we looked forward to a few nights of hot baths to relax our muscles and unwind. First night ticked all the boxes. Breakfasts was a typical spread of cereals, yoghurt, fruit, tea, coffee, OJ with a choice of poached egg, bacon and toast. No sides of mushrooms, beans, etc offered. At times milk and water needed to be asked for. Unfortunately on our second night we ran a bath and hot water ran out. Owner switched over to electric system but 2 hrs passed and still no hot water. It was disappointing as the reason for booking that room was to enjoy a hot spa bath each night. We went to bed disappointed. Third day we had to switch rooms and the house was full with other couples. We had an early night, but were not able to sleep due to other couples coming and going all night and loud throughout the hall and back of house until 11pm. The morning of check out we were tired and it was freezing 2 degree morning. We were looking forward to a HOT shower. Unfortunately once again, we were left with no hot water and had cold showers. When we told the owner she said "oh OK". No apology or some kind of empathy was offered, let alone a discount. At $190 per night for 3 nights we expected more.

I'm sorry to hear that these guests did not have the perfect stay they had wanted, I do have a few comments in response to the criticisms in the review.

Firstly, these guests telephoned on Thursday afternoon to make a booking for that night and the following 2 nights and wanted a room with a bath. I advised that I did not have accommodation available in a room with a bath for the 3 nights required. The lady then advised that if I only have a room available for one night, so they could have a bath, and then they would be happy to move to another room. On this request I then accepted the booking and they had a room with a spa bath in the en suite for 2 nights. They were well aware that they had to move to another room on the 3rd night prior to coming to the property.

In relation to the lack of hot water, the bedroom with the spa bath en suite has its own hot water system which is s sola system. The weather had been reasonable with sunshine during at least the major part of the days prior to or of their visit. Yes, it is cold at this time of the year in the highland; however there had been sunshine to heat the sola system. This couple managed to use all 390 litres of hot water in one evening/next morning shower and so there was no more hot water to run another spa bath until the next day’s sunshine. This hot water system fills the spa bath twice and allows for 45 minutes of showing and in 6 years of trading other couples have managed to have a spa and shower in the evening and then managed to have showers in the morning without having hot water problems. The couple that had booked that particular room, in the days that followed did just that without any problems. I did however, following this guest’s complaint about running out of hot water, change the system to an instant system but on for thr period which the complainants occupied the room, so that the hot water is continuously heated and even when out of hot water he sysem will reheat within 10-15 minutes. I did notice that they then ran another spa bath.

When the guests moved to the other room, as arranged prior to taking the booking, they were on a hot water system of again 390 litres. However, this particular system has instant and continuous heating. There would have been other guests using this hot water system, however as the other guests were already at breakfast some hour or more earlier, then any water used by them would have been already replaced and heated. The complainant guests must have used a huge amount of hot water for them to find they did not have sufficient hot water again for their showers.

I monitored the hot water system in the days that followed this particular stay, and being fully booked asked each guest if the hot water system was working sufficiently and the reply was always – yes, they had plenty of hot water.

In relation to the food, maybe these guests were looking for brunch as they were very late in coming to breakfast, ie, arranged 9.00 am breakfast and they arived for breakfast at around 9:45 am on the first morning and on the second morning did not sit down for breakfast before 10.45 am. I consider this to be very late and inconsiderate. My usual time for breakfast is until 8.30 am, however when I have only a few guests I am happy to have breakfast until 9.00 am.
