“Not great but it's free except for parking”
Reviewed February 18, 2014 via mobile

We didn't pay for parking as we believed it was a free outing. Glad we didn't as it was overpriced. Also the reserve was a bit disappointing. The best part was the open bird & koala area. The rest either didn't have the signposted animals or they were too far away to see. Glad we didn't pay for it as we weren't even 30 mins.

“Must visit, free attraction for families in Newcastle”
Reviewed January 14, 2014

This is a wonderful park that will only cost you the price of parking your car. Lots of Australian animals to see - koalas, wombats, kangaroos and emus - in pleasant surrounds, as well as a playground for the kids. You just can't beat a free attraction such as this for young families! Don't miss this in Newcastle.

“Free fun for everyone..”

Lots to see and do. Free entry. Can spend a whole day here, public barbecue areas, parks, pay $5 and get to cuddle a koala. Highly recommend.

“What a Gem in the City”
Reviewed January 12, 2014

I've recently revisited Blackbutt Reserve this week and I was very impressed with changes, and so happy to have all the restorations complete. My comment to my fellow companions was how great it was to see Blackbutt restored to it's former glory and full of people enjoying it's fantastic facilities: Australian bush and wildlife, picnic areas, fabulous children's playground, BBQ's, as well as a wonderful children's ranger program. The only downer was the carpark monetary machines which were out of service last time, and this time failed to register the money input properly so we paid twice as much to park. Parking is $4.60 per day. We are soooo very very lucky to have this fab slice of nature in the middle of our city. It's a must if you come to Newcastle.
