This reserve is a real gem just minutes away from Newcastle central. The walks throughout the reserve are just magical and the wildlife, both contained and free, is wonderful to see.

While most people who visit Blackbutt stick to the visitors areas and native animal zoo, which is very good with a great range of native animals. However those who are more adventurous should go on a walk further into the reserve. One recommendation is to complete the rainforest trail which goes past a flying fox colony.

We did not have a lot of time to do much sightseeing since it was a business trip but this was worth the stop. They have a select group of animals, all look very healthy and happy. My work mate from China got her wish and saw a koala bear. Even better, she was able to see many kangaroos and emus, a must see if you are in Australia.

A wonderful place to see native animals, koalas, wombats, emus, kangaroos, and birds. The environment is beautiful and well maintained, and there are plenty of facilities for a picnic, such as bbqs, tables and shelter. Three animals are well looked after, and kids love feeding the ducks. A great place to enjoy nature, have a relax, eat a picnic, and have fun. A must-see place for anyone visiting Newcastle.

This park is outstanding..!! It has it all... Wildlife, a pond with ducks, play equipment and a small shop. What a way to kill an afternoon. The little section of native animals is outstanding... We love spending the afternoon here with our son.
