Bistro tartine was always one of my favourite Newcastle restaurants, so I was anxious to find out if the new chef and owner would be able to match it's previous reputation. I was not disappointed. Dining on a quieter night, a Tuesday, there was just one person on the floor, but at no time were we in want of anything. Our waiter was efficient, attentive and amiable. I assume there was also just one or two in the kitchen, but again, food was prompt, well delivered and delicious. At one point when the waiter was (clearly) busy attending to another table, our food was delivered by the chef himself, who was also friendly and polite- an exciting and rare opportunity to put a face to the man behind the food. All 3 courses we had were beautiful- flavorsome souffle and succulent med-rare scallops; perfectly pink veal and fall-apart wild barramundi; moreish rum baba and superior selection of cheeses... My partner and I are both in hospitality and always unconsciously dissect our meals and experiences at restaurants. Bistro tartine was a rare experience of utter enjoyment, and we wish the new team the highest praise and best of luck in this notoriously cut throat industry. Thank you for a lovely experience
