“Large clean room, very friendly staff”
Reviewed July 9, 2011

The room was large and new, bed was nice and firm.
Ironing board and iron were already in the room.
There was some noise from the road outside, but there were double windows to help with this and I wore earplugs, so it was no problem.
Right next door to a large shopping centre.
Have to pay for parking overnight ($15) and for internet ($22 per 24hrs).
Staff were very friendly and reliable; they very carefully looked after my laptop on two occasions.

Room Tip: Perhaps higher floors will be less noisy

After driving for over 13 hours and looking forward to a shower and dinner, we unfortunately booked into a room. We were told that the Sienna Cafe/Restaurant was open and we could have dinner there.
We found our room which was clean, but that was all that could be said for it. The shower over the bath was poor but at least we had dinner to look forward to. We went downstairs and at 9 pm on a Saturday night the place was empty. That should have been enough of a warning.
We both ordered flathead tails, because what could go wrong with them? They could be cooked at least twice and covered in dark brown batter with something inside that perhaps used to be fish. The meal was inedible. When we complained the the young girl she just booked the meal to our room.
I have since written to the establishment with no response.
To add insult to injury there is a surcharge for credit cards and you have to pay for parking.

This hotel must have being built in the 60,s and has not changed since. Small restaurant with poor service,6 people and 1/2 hour before meals came. The bathroom don,t try and take anything off over your head you will lose your knuckles on the ceiling.
Would definately not stop here again. Disappointed a a Travelodge

After a recent world business trip and 67 hotel stays, the service received at Travel Lodge Newcastle was that poor that in retrospect it is almost comical. The night staff member Adam was more like a security guard wannabe than helpful. No wonder this hotel has average reviews.

We will remove travel lodge from our corporate options list and advise anyone we converse with to do the same.

General cleanliness was average

I had a very spacious room which had a double bed. One small problem was that the toilet seat wouldn't stay up, but maybe that was only my room. This hotel was near a main street in Newcastle but I didn't find it noisy at night when sleeping. The walls are very sound, as I could not hear my television whenever I re-entered my room, even when I turned it up a bit louder (nothing excessive though). The Travelodge is situated across the road from a supermarket which is open 24 hours a day. The supermarket is part of a shopping complex and it is only a 10-15 minute walk from the hotel into the CBD. I was also able to walk to adjoining suburbs such as Hamilton and The Junction within half an hour. The staff had good knowledge of the layout of the local area as well as issues such as trains to Sydney and local shops and attractions.

although this is a new hotel with clean amenities, i thought it was overpriced for Newcastle and also the rooms walls were very thin as I could hear the other person in the bathroom.

Location is good and central, however was no able to order room service during the middle of the day as they only opened it from 6pm and was absolutely starving as they utilize a cafe downstairs.

no issues checking in and reception were quick and prompt checking everybody in.

I stayed here for a night in May. What a dive. The corridors resembled a Contiki tour, drunken louts everywhere, used trays, people trying your door all night, clock radio alarm didnt work, a very tired staff who thought they were on a Contiki tour. 6am checkout and despite me telling them that the night before and on arrival, not close to ready to "process me" so I left the key on the counter and walked out.

Its not cheap, its not cheerful, its damp, dingy, cluttered, bombarded by traffic noise and the Maccas across the road and about 50 bucks over the odds.

No milk, no sugar, a dirty bathroom, its got nothing going for it. Its like time stood still circa 1985.
