“Funky French Wine Bar”

Great spot in central Newcastle - good variety of drinks and great cheese and charcuterie platters. Duck pate fantastic, and service always with a smile. Gets pretty busy on Friday and Saturday nights though

“A new style for the city”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 24, 2014

It was a great Friday afternoon drinks that turned into dinner we loved the ambiance of the venue.

As we had a large group we opted to standing for the majority of the night but this gave us the chance to mingle around and catch up with others we hadn't seen for a while, we managed to get some seating when our group halved and decided to get some share platters that were demolished within seconds. So tasty and alluring that we ended up ordering and other 2.

The wine list is extensive and I like that they explain the regions and styles of the wine, and to keep us Aussies happy some familiar named wines make the list.

If your going as a big group make sure you book but they may not accept, small groups (4-6) are much better

“Confused”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 8, 2014 via mobile

It's a beautiful building with lots of potential, unfortunately it's potential only.

The wine list is good and there's a map to show you the different wine regions of France which is helpful. Mixture of prices for bottles and very reasonable prices for wine by the glass.

Our meals came out really quickly, before we had a chance to finish our pre-dinner champagne. Speedy delivery of meals suggested they were pre-made. Both meals were on the small side and lacked real French flavours - not a lot of favour and quite oily.

It seems that le passe temps is slightly confused about what it is - restaurant or bar, 1920's or industrial chic. The mix of tables/seating isn't conducive to groups of 7 or more and the space is too large to be intimate.

The wait staff were very friendly and attentive (and French).

A great place for a pre or post dinner drink with one or two others.

“Underwhelmed”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 8, 2014

We visited after work one evening for a drink and catch up with friends. We asked for a table for 5 and were offered a table for 4, when we asked as to whether we could drag another chair over we were told - NO!!! The wine list in totally underwhelming for a wine bar, the lovely waiter with the french accent did not know one thing about the wines. Compared to other venues close by this is an absolute nightmare. The menu is small and lacking imagination.

“A fun place for something different”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 8, 2014 via mobile

Okay so my little French love affair would be one of the reasons I rate this place I highly. In saying that it has a great vibe and I love the service (French accents included). The food is quite good and the wine list while small is easy drinking. The only thing this place could improve is some live music perhaps on a Friday and Saturday evening. Will keep coming back as this is a unique and special place in Newcastle.
