We all enjoyed the 4 bedroom apartment with a group of friends last weekend. We were all impressed with not only the friendly staff (A special mention to Aaron who was very helpful) but the layout and comfort of this clean apartment. The location is awesome and we were very spoilt for choice with many cafes and bars at our door step. The beds and pillows were extremely comfortable. Thanks Crown On Darby - we will be back.

We booked via a secret motel deal at last minute, due to an unexpected stopover. We have never been to Newcastle before, it had a Melbourne feel to it with lots of cafes and restaurants and beautiful old buildings. The reception we received was very friendly and the rooms very modern and well equipped. The bed was super comfy, my only comment was a 2nd chair to sit on would have been handy. Crown on darby is a great location surrounded by numerous types of cafes and restuarants, reasonably priced parking was available but we had already parked our car only a street away.

Once we worked out that the car park was accessed from Railway st everything came together nicely. The staff are very helpful and friendly, the room was very modern, clean and comfortable and the location is terrific . Right in the middle of the Darby St restaurant strip.
Highly recommended.

My husband and I booked a studio apartment and when I asked about a room with a spa bath, we were upgraded to a one-bedroom spa apartment at no extra cost. We couldn't have been happier with the room- it was beautiful. Lovely modern decor, very comfortable bed, ideally located amidst all the hip cafes and restaurants, in walking distance from the beach, and the staff at reception were always friendly and helpful. Will definitely be coming back. AMAZING value for money!! :-)

Room Tip: One bedroom spa

As others have noted - amazing location!

And as others have also noted, there is a rude man afoot in this hotel.
When we arrived and commenced check in, all I could hear was an incredibly loud booming voice carrying on a one sided conversation on a mobile phone. Management then blocked us in the reception area. Grandiosity being his obvious forte, he was more concerned about talking himself up to the two business individuals beside him than letting us through with our two enormous bags (imagine if he had actually deigned to offer assistance!) I can only imagine this self important person is the manager or the owner...

The room was spacious but in a strange way unfinished - the hairdryer unit was not attached properly to the wall, lighting in the bathroom was atrocious, not a stick of furniture, not even a pot plant on the football field sized balcony and no flyscreens.

All that I probably would have overlooked. If not for that rude little man afoot....

Room Tip: never again!

We booked our 2-night stay at Crown on Darby via a Wotif deal and were very happy with our stay. The location on Darby Street is great, with so many cafes, bars and restaurants right on the doorstep.

The studio apartment wasn’t huge, and a few extra hangers wouldn’t go amiss in the wardrobe, but the kitchenette had sufficient items for our needs and the aircon operated very quietly – always a plus.

In the bathroom, it was a little odd to have conditioner provided and not shampoo, but the walk-in shower was spacious. Our room was (as requested) at the back of the property, so was extremely quiet at night.

Others have commented on the unusual enclosed balconies, but we found that the louvre blinds did a good job of letting in light (or not, when closed).

The male (Canadian?) receptionist was very helpful and pleasant and we were off to the room within a few minutes of arriving.

We would happily stay here again.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back of the property will likely be quieter than those facing onto Darby Street, which...

I have made a formal complaint about the General Manager of Crown on Darby Newcastle NSW. We booked 4 rooms for 7 people and an infant on the 13th February. We are all coming from interstate for a family event on the 6th April and booked for Saturday 5th April.

We received a phone call, text message and email at 5.47pm on Saturday 29th March informing us to ring him urgently. We rang the hotel who had no idea what it was about. We then rang his mobile number. We were then told that there was a problem and that we could move to their apartments in Charlestown about 20-25 minutes away. He said it is only 10 minutes away. We were given no apology or explanation, except unforeseen circumstances. We were also told we had till Sunday morning or we would lose this booking as well. He offered no discount or alternative to this offering. He was utterly rude and disrespectful. The initial booking was made at this establishment due to easy access for my wheelchair bound 93 year old mother and a 3 month baby.

We were completely devastated as this booking was around the corner from the event we were going to and struggled for 3 hours to find alternate accommodation. We had made the booking 45 days earlier.

We obviously will not be recommending this establishment or this man to anybody and I hope this information is posted or placed on your website so that no one else will be treated as we have.
