Must admit I did not set foot into the water, but the area is beautiful. Great walking spot, very close to CBD. Worth a walk out the breakwater and up into Fort Scratchley for the view over Nobbies Beach.

Newcastle has so many beautiful beaches being situated on the East coast.Nobby beach is probably one of the safest with lifeguards on duty in the Summer months(to be safe you must swim in between the flags). There is a kiosk with great hamburger's,hot chips, milkshakes etc.You can also walk to the lighthouse from the beach or take a stroll along the Breakwall & watch the ships come into the Harbour.Just across the road is the Newcastle Foreshore that is a lovely area to have a picnic. There are swings for the children & BBQ,s & table & chairs. If you are visiting Newcastle take a drive from Nobby's beach around to Newcastle beach,King Edward Park,Dixon park beach & finally Merewether beach. You can stop & have a coffee or a beer at Merewether surf house.

The best thing about the beach, apart from the clean sand and blue sea, is the position of the peninsula sticking out and you can see the narrow heads and channel and the boats waiting out at sea to come into the port.

If you enjoy great scenery this place is up there with some of the best. A great walk along the breakwall.
Get a photo framed by the arches on the Northern side of the rotunda.
If you are lucky enough to see a ship "steaming" through the heads you realise how big they are close up.

The walk along the breakwater gives you a great view of Newcastle and is very refreshing. Wrap up well as it can be quite bracing once you walk past the lighthouse!
