Equal to any City Cathedral. Check times for tours and services. There is a small shop in the foyer you can purchase memorabilia
this helps with the ongoing coast of maitenance. Extensive damage was caused during the 1989 earthquake. The cathedral is a beautiful place to view the city and harbour of Newcastle. It has many history graves in the large well manicured ground.

This place is so beautiful, with sweeping views and lovely grounds around the outside. It is a lovely place to visit, and if you're lucky enough to catch a service - not that I'm religious - the music is awe-inspiring. I'm not a church goer but this is too pretty to miss.

This beautiful Cathedral is one of the iconic sights of Newcastle - dating back to the late 19th century and replacing several earlier churches on the same site going back to the days Governor Lachlan Macquarie (1810-1821). It suffered some severe structural damage during the late 1989 earthquake which caused widespread damage across the city - though since repaired - nevertheless such a massive structure requires lots of expensive maintenance - an ongoing struggle. There is a massive pipe organ - and concerts! A kinswoman - former Librarian of Newcastle University - Joan MURRAY - wrote the Cathedral's history -published about 20 years ago. There are interesting features - a spectacular model of the beautiful Lantern sited centrally in the vast and ancient Ely Cathedral north from Cambridge in England - and a beautiful stained glass window by Sir Edward Coley Burne-Jones (1833-1898) of the pre-Raphaelites/William Morris folk craft movements. Among other treasures! There is a shop at the front - help support the Cathedral by purchasing some memento!
