Magnificent waterfront outlook which changes by the minute courtesy of the busy commercial port. Large, clean, comfortable rooms and a high level of service will impress.Close proximity to city centre and many waterfront restaurants and cafes.

We spent 5 days here in January and were most impressed with the service and the quality of the premises. Have previously stayed at Travelodge (good), Apollo at Charlestown(very good) and Apartments at Jesmond (disgusting) so if you are willing to pay a little extra you will receive the appropriate benefits. All staff were outstanding - friendly, efficient and willing to assist in any way. Used to parking our own car so was a little concerned with valet parking but found if given 5 minutes notice the car was there ready for us. Also had been washed on two occasions due to bird droppings where it had been left overnight! Breakfast was included in our package and was first class in quality and range available. Had an apartment overlooking the harbour so was great to see the tugs and carriers up close. Great view and except for the occasional hoot was nice and quiet. Room was comfortable - 2 tvs, sliding door to bedroom. Bathroom large though a little dated with shower over the bath with a fabric shower curtain. Tiles are showing their age and could do with a good clean. Unusual to have a sink in the apartment for washing up though a microwave would be a useful addition. Great spot for walking along the harbour and to the beaches. Car needed to access shopping as this end of town is slowly being developed. All in all a lovely stay and we will happily return.

Room Tip: Try to get rooms facing the harbour and unless you want a hike, ask for those closer to the foyeur.

What a great surprise this hotel is. If you read my previous reviews you'll see I think Crowne Plaza, as a chain, is patchy at best. But this one is VERY good. It's on the harbour, a working dockside area which is quite interesting. There is now a good strip of restraunts and bars nearby. One called Dockside is good. This hotel has a nice outdoor pool, good friendly staff and a clever little layout. I had a marginally cheaper "city view room" Oddly, it was on the ground floor and actually faced the pool and the water and was a great spot. Room 16, I think. It was like a junior suite and was a terrific room. Unlike most Crowne Plazas I've stayed in the curtains actually fit the windows and blocked out all light - which is important to me. I went for business, but you could stay a couple of days for pleasure here is the weather was nice.

Room Tip: Get a poolside room, they don;t seem to charge extra.

I recently stayed at the Crowne Plaza Newcastle after Christmas for a family getaway for 2 nights. It is situated on the harbour right next to cafes and restaurants and is good to take the kids for a stroll along the foreshore. When I arrived I was made to feel welcome, we had to wait for our room to be ready but the manager organized to get into our room sooner and upgraded us to the Harbour View spa room, I recommend this room as it looks over the Harbour and the kids loved watching the ships go by.
Through-out our stay there were a few problems with our room, the cot i ordered on my reservation didn't arrive to late, the mini bar wasn't stocked up, the jets in the spa were turned up and splashed all over the bathroom which made the kids cry, we ordered cocktails by the pool but they didn't arrive etc.
Although breakfast in the restaurant is really nice and picturesque, the pool area is very quiet and pleasant and the decor through-out the hotel is very modern.
As we had a few problems with our stay, we decided to leave early. I spoke to the manager on Duty Erin and I was very impressed on how she handled the situation and sorted a few issues out for me. We also had to rush off to the hospital because my child got something stuck in her ear and she organized for our car to be ready waiting for us when we checked out.
Even though there were problems with our stay, the service to fix the issues were outstanding so I would recommend this hotel on the location and service that I received.

Room Tip: Harbour View Spa room

Its always a great stay at the Crowne, friendly staff and clean rooms, in a great location.

Easy walking distance to other restaraunts and bars.

A great walking path along the harbour and to the beach.

Room Tip: Ask for a harbour view room.

We stayed in a King Spa Suite for four nights and every moment was an absolute joy.

I could ramble about the amazing rooms and the great service from the staff, but that'd all be a bit trite. It's all been said before by other reviewers. Instead, I'll point out the little things that made it such a special place to stay:

1. Our original room looked out over the pool (which, being school holidays, seemed to be perpetually full of over-excited children. The pool view was marvellous, except as school teachers we were hoping to escape the squeals of little kids for a period of time. We called reception asking if we could relocate to a room that wasn't so close to the seething mass of children down in the pool. Within minutes, a receptionist had personally delivered keys to our new room which was mercifully as far from the kiddies as physically possible.

2. Pancakes with cinammon sugar and lemon juice as an option in the buffet breakfast - how good is that?! Also worth mentionining - the juicer, which let us concoct our own hideously healthy carrot-and-beetroot-and-celery juices every morning.

3. The view overlooking the harbour. Not only did the water dominate the view from the room (unlike so many oceanview rooms advertised elsewhere), but the constant comings and goings of the boats ensured that there was never a dull moment.

4. The spa bath, which was so big you could probably fit three or four people in there (if that's your thing, I suppose.)

Beyond that, it'd be impossible to fault the location. Incredibly dining options lie within metres of the hotel door. Darby Street, with all of its hip, groovy, youthful shops and cafes is an easy ten minute stroll away and Newcastle's beaches are a very short drive up the road.

For the sake of balance, there were a few things that could be improved (although neither of these things can detract from a five star rating!).

1. The lack of on-site parking, necessitating a valet service, was an inconvenience. The fact that it then cost $28 per day to endure such an inconvenience seemed entirely counter-productive. However, the service provided was always prompt, so at least it was fine in that regard.

2. The harbourside location, for all of its amazing qualities, did mean that on occasion you'd hear the low, loud "mooooooooooooooooop" of a ship's horn on occasion in the wee hours of the morning. It was far from frequent and never posed any significant issues for us, but I can imagine that light sleepers might find this to be of significant annoyance.

Anyway, to sum up - a great stay, much recommended.

In a nice part of the city - by the river so you can watch the big ships going up river. Very interesting. The rooms are built facing the river. Very long corridors - very quiet. Location offers a good opportunity to have a good evening stroll or a run in the morning. Nice restaurants in the vicinity. The location offers a good respite when you are there for work as you can easily go for a walk.
