“Amazing location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 11, 2013

We stayed at the Crowne Plaza for one-night getaway on the 4th floor in a king spa room. Best location in Newcastle with an amazing view from the balcony. We have previously stayed at the Sebel (now Novotel) Newcastle Beach and although it's closer to the beach, we found the Sebel had questionable 'views'. The Crowne Plaza wins hands down on the location front.

The staff were all very pleasant; even the cleaning staff we passed in the hallway! Great bed and the suite was very, very clean. Unfortunately our room was a very long walk from the lift and stairwell, however this had the added benefit of the room being quiet with no through traffic. It's a small price to pay for the location though.

One very small negative was the breakfast room - it's in need of some updating and possibly a layout change. Breakfast was good however and the staff were quick to replenish the buffet.

We'll definitely stay here again.

My wife and I booked a stay at the Crowne Plaza for a few days away for our wedding anniversary. As a whole, we thought it was a nice hotel but there were a few things that they could definately improve on. We stayed in a riverside room, which was nice and spacious. The door handle to enter the room was very temperamental and we usually had to swipe our room key several times to get the door to open. The buffet breakfast is beautiful but we learnt on the first morning not to go between 9 & 10. I ordered an omelete, which never arrived and it was pretty much full.

Pros:
* Great Location
* Good Facilities
* Gym access is next door but great facility
* Nice pool area

Cons
* Price of parking, very expensive for Newcastle
* Busy during breakfast
* Towel collection area for pool always empty

We stayed on the 4th Floor facing the working harbour over the Christmas period. The staff were wonderful, so helpful and nothing was too much trouble. We watched the tugs and ships go by, walked along the wonderful boadwalk to the beach and breakwater.The room was spacious, spotless and breakfast was excellent, with so much to choose from. The location is very relaxing as was the time spent in the pool and surrounds. This was the second year that I spent Christmas here and have booked for a third. Christmas lunch was throughly enjoyable but a little down graded from the previous year. Still left with a smile on our face and a very full tummy. The hotel is within walking distance to the beautiful beach and park. Derby Street is within walking distance with fantatsic food and great coffee.

We stayed here between Xmas and New Year and were very happy with our stay.

Our room faced the harbour which is worth that little bit extra for the views. We woke on the first morning to see a massive ship gliding by our bedroom and sitting area windows! and were also treated to a full moon over the water during our stay.

We asked for a room on upper floors and had no issues with noise other than the ship's horns, which we'd expected. Was also good for privacy from the people strolling along the foreshore walk.

This hotel is just a short walk away from some great bars and restaurants with a lot of options available for breakfast. It is also a relatively easy walk to the beach.

We didn't use many of the hotel's services but the room was clean, a good size and well laid out. Wi fi is not free which is disappointing considering the nightly room rate. The only real issue was the broken toilet seat (which we didn't report).

Our bathroom had a shower rose over a bathtub so this should be considered by the less mobile.

Parking is expensive however after 5pm you can find unlimited parking n the nearby area. Also found a couple of 4 hr parking areas between 9am and 5pm within walking distance.

Will be happy to stay here again.

Room Tip: Higher rooms will offer a little more privacy. We asked for a quiet room which was quite a hike from...

Room was clean and serviced daily. We could not fault the staff and the breakfast had plenty of choice. Car parking was pricey. The working harbour was enjoyable to watch. Did not eat at the hotel as there was plenty of choice within a few hundred meters on the water each night
Great location we were there three nights and did not use the car

Make sure you get a harbour room

Room Tip: Harbour room with a balcony Pack comfy walking shoes and enjoy the views around the beaches and har...

We stayed here from the 28th through to the 31st to go back to Sydney for NYE. The only reason we booked the Crown Plaza in Newcastle was cause we couldn't find any other accommodation anywhere on the central and northern coast.

Im so glad that was the case.

The Crown Plaza really is the best hotel i have ever stayed at. The staff are ultra friendly, the rooms are immaculate (not to mention huge!), and the buffet breakfast - well, it's worth while staying here just for that! Whether your a vegan, paleo, gluten intolerant or wanting a sugar fix (waffles with ice cream, pancakes, berriers, poached fruit etc), there's something for everyone.

I would at the drop of a hat go back just to stay here. The location is very central; lots of shops, bars, and cafes nearby; beaches down the road; and parking is pretty easy.

5 out of 5 for me.

Big thanks to all the staff at The Crown Plaza.

Room Tip: Pay that bit extra for a harbour view room.

Stayed between Christmas and New Year. Staff were nice. However, basic motels have a microwave with at least a bowl and a spoon. The toilet seat was broken; I couldn't use the bath tub because the device to change from shower to bath was not working; the TV in the bedroom kept turning blue but had sound; we paid $28 to have our car housed in a warehouse and when we drove it at 9.00am the inside was burning hit-I had to ask why the windows were down when I walked out. I've stayed at motels for half the price and receive free wifi - your prices are terrible. I paid over $600 for 2 nights. The room was pokey and We ended up leaving and not staying the evening of New Years's Day. Very disappointing because the presentation of the hotel generally was very nice. It's a pity about the room! Ps my daughter is deaf and the TV in this day and age had no caption facility.
