Crowne Plaza Newcastle
Ranked #3 of 24 Hotels in Newcastle
Certificate of Excellence

This hotel is fairly new, all suites. Yet, it is very expensive for what you get. The view of the harbor is all industrial and not that soothing to gaze onto. Internet is available for a price-one price...$27.95/day and that is the slower rate. When we argued about the price for slow internet, we were told, "why worry about it, your company is paying!" This attitude is wrong and a license to steal. The breakfast was included, because we paid extra for it. Very expensive. There was no other breakfast place nearby available so, we were stuck. The restaurant offered the exact same menu every day. We were here for 9 days and it got old very quickly. We ended up walking down the harbor to Subway most days for lunch! This is the only hotel of its rating available anywhere in Newcastle. But, expect to pay dearly for any amenities they offer!

Room Tip: Just stay away from lifts and stairwells.

We stayed there for 1 night in the spa suite to catch up with friends. Although the bed was comfortable, we found it to be over priced for what we actually got. The room service and breakfast were great.
If you were after a sleep in, do not stay there as the tug boats toot their horns very early. As with the Crowne Plaza name it was safe and friendly place to stay. Would stay there again , but this time in a standard room.

The most brilliant stay – very friendly staff, vantastic views from both suites and public areas of the tug boats and ships passing by. Close walking distance from everything but the highlight was breakfast – wow, the best ever. The chef making omelettes asked if he could do anything to improve my experience and I said ‘honestly, NO!’

Room Tip: Go for the harbour view - there is always something to look at

So disappointed with the catering here. Initially attended a conference and it was crowded, too difficult to access tea/coffee. Limited choice in morning & afternoon tea..... all very sweet! Terrible terrible coffee.... Yuk!
Lunch was a buffet, and Cold! as in the supposedly hot food was not hot, by the time we were able to access our meal we were being called back in, we are not smokers so there was no deviation from our workshop to the dining room.
As our party stayed overnight the dinner was delicious.
Breakfast however meant more terrible coffee, and no butter available on the buffet, it was supplied after requesting it.... really? should I need to request it?
Love the location and the hotel served the purpose for our conference but keep away from the coffee and 'hot foods' buffet

Stayed here for two nights in early November 2012 staying in a harbour-side suite that included a nice lounge and kitchen. Suite was also equipped with a separate bedroom and bathroom which were quite pleasant
Bed was extremely comfortable and a delight to sleep in with marvellous views from the bed in the morning across the harbour.
Hotel staff were very helpful, friendly and courteous.
The breakfast in the restaurant was amongst one of the best that I have ever had and nothing was a problem with attentive wait staff.
The Hotel is central to the complete Newcastle area with many restaurants close-by and a wonderful walk along the harbour to Scratchleys and other top class restaurants.Highly recommend this Hotel to both business travellers and others who are after good digs in Newcastle..

Room Tip: Always ask for the Harbour View

I stayed here recently as where I ussually stay (Quest) was fully booked, I expected Crowne Plaza to be a quality alternative hotel. I was treated as a number with no genuine customer service. Location is ok if you want everyone walking past your window, it is really noisy and anyone can walk in to the hotel, security is lacking. The room was old and in need of renovation, needs a good clean. Overall this hotel is underwhelming and needs some attention. I won't stay here again,

We recently spent two nights at this hotel in Newcastle - we agonised over where we should stay - beachside or harbourside but I'm sure we made the right decision in the end. We paid a little extra for a harbourview room which was well worth it - it was fascinating watching the tugs and big container ships come and go and a waterview is always relaxing. The rooms were very comfortable - bedroom with separate lounge/bar area which is always worthwhile when staying more than one night. There were a stack of restaurants & bars within short walk from hotel. We stayed here for our anniversary and were treated to a complimentary bottle of sparkiling wine.
Parking is a bit of a problem - street parking requires a ticket between 9 & 5 or valet parking at cost of $28

Room Tip: Harbourview - always something happening on the River!
