As stated the room was small and in one corner you could enter Dr Who's tardis for a shower. We were travelling with our 18mth old son, who had his portable cot ,but by the time we placed that in the room we really had no room. We were travelling from Newcastle to Byron Bay and for a similar price in Port Macquarie we got a room 3 times the size (the bathroom was as big as the jail cell in Newcastle). Very disappointing and then they had the gumption to charge for car parking! Note I never received the feedback form via email either

Many thanks for taking the time to provide feedback regarding Ibis Newcastle. I am sorry to learn of your experience.

Ibis rooms are designed for 2 adults sharing and additional cots or rollaway beds do take up the limited space that is available.

I will ensure that the Reception team are given the training to ensure that guests informing us that they are travelling with children are advised of the limited space. We also have an Apartment in the hotel which allows for a more comfortable stay and sleeps up to 4 adults.

The price for a room varies depending upon demand. There is a high demand for Accommodation in Newcastle however it is always advisable to book as far as possible in advance and check with the hotels website for the best deals.

Once again my thanks for your comments and I hope we can welcome you back on your next trip to Newcastle.

I booked this hotel after madly searching online for a last minute hotel - only this and another hotel were available.

The staff are friendly and provided us with some tips for cafes and sight seeing. The room was clean & breakfast (included in the package) was fine.

I would stay there again, if we were given a room not on the smoking floor (it was one of the only rooms left when we booked online).

Dear louveyret,

Thank you for your posting. I am delighted that you enjoyed your stay at Ibis Newcastle. I am especially pleased to hear that you found our staff to be friendly and helpful. I believe top level customer service is one of the most important factors in us making your stay memorable.

If you want to get a non-smoking room, try to check-in as early as possible so that the front desk team can change your room to a non-smoking room. If you can’t arrive any earlier, phone ahead on the day you are checking in and we will always try to assist you.

Thank you again for your feedback and we look forward to welcoming you back soon.

Kind regards,
Stuart McGowan,
General Manager

I stayed for 2 nights in May 2008. Room was clean and bed was extremely comfortable, inside corridor was quiet but outside noise obvious, I used earplugs. Staff I dealt with were very helpful. Area not so good, but pharmacy open until 11pm across street and a mall is 2 blocks away with Coles and takeaway outlets etc. I was a female travelling alone and I did not think it was a problem to walk down the street in the daytime however I would hesitate at night. The problem I had with the hotel was that I had prepaid 2 nights parking and when I returned on the second evening at 11pm, I discovered all the car parks had been taken. Surely when they see how many car parks have been prebooked, and how many car parks are available, they would put 1 and 2 together. The front desk clerk advised that more cars than expected arrived but this was no excuse, don't let anymore in! In the defence of the clerk, she went out of her way to accommodate me in a staff members car park, did not charge me for the second night, and was most apologetic. Price overall needs to come down given ordinary location.

I stayed here for 2 nights whilst travelling through Newcastle for business in 2007.

All in all it was standard Ibis fare and this is generally an OK thing. Pretty small rooms, generic type furniture, but a comfortable bed and reasonably clean with the exception of the aircon venting being mouldy (why can't hotels deal with this simple issue?). The bathroom - a strange sort of plastic pod thing was certainly different. Did the job whilst also feeling completely temporary in an Ikea home kind of way.

I booked well in advance and got a with breakfast deal for $129.00 per night. If the breakfst wasn't included then the price would have been on the steep side.

Agree with other comments that the location leaves a little to be desired. It is at the far end of town, but didn't seem to make much difference as central Newcastle tended to go into a coma from 6pm onwards. Taxi driver advised that everyone had "moved to the suburbs".

Look forward to small rooms that are extremely cheaply furnished and decorated. The bathroom is a prefabricated plastic box in the corner of your room - it felt like you were in a portaloo. The hotel is not located close to any restaurants and the views are of industrial buidlings, empty blocks, and the train line. I thought the hotel was over priced by about double.
