We enjoyed our stay at the Ibis Newcastle, however, it was not the highlight of our trip. For clean and affordable, it was fine. It would have been nice to have free wifi like at our other hotels, and to be within closer proximity to everything. It is VERY close to the train station, which was a major plus, and earned it its 4th star in my review! Sadly, it's in a very depressing and abandoned part of town, and is quite a walk to any of the fantastic sights in the city. Had we not hiked quite a bit, I'd have no idea what wonderful galleries, boutiques, bars, restaurants and sights Newcastle had to offer.

Although the staff were friendly enough and the reception efficient and easy this place really feels like it was a budget painted up to be a higher end hotel. Very small room more like a ships cabin, a bathroom built into a cupboard, very claustrophobic environment. The rooms are cheaply fitted out, there is no carpet under the bed, which by the way is quiet comfortable. This is in a noisy part of town so opening the windows at night is not advisable, air conditioner certainly worked but it is large and noisy. The breakfast area is cramped and not worth visiting, it's only a few minutes walk to restaurants. Newcastle is a beautiful city, well worth a visit but unless you get a great deal don't stay here. .

The room was cleanish (there was hair in the bathroom). And as I was in an accessible room, for me, there was enough room. But the noise was unacceptable. Ground floor on Hunter Street. Not only was the noise coming from the outside, there was a lot of noise in the lobby area throughout the night. I mentioned the news to the staff on checkout, she was polite and apologetic. I also mentioned it on the FB page and got a 'sorry'. But as it seems others have noticed and complained and yet nothing seems to have been done. I was glad that I didn't have a big drive the next day. The included breakfast food was good, but the coffee awful.

Room Tip: do not take a room on the ground floor. My workmates were on a higher level and had no complaint re...

The room, although small, was quite adequate for us; the purpose to stay being 2 day surgery procedures, lunches with friends and appointment with accountant. We liked the room and en-suite and the location suited the purposes of our stay in Ncle. And the price was OK.

It was only one night, it was in a central location, and it had the disability access room we needed, however.....
The room (105) was tiny, with barely an inch either side of the wheelchair to get between the end of the bed and the wall - on the other hand the bathroom was fabulous (almost as big as the bedroom) and with all a proper disabled bathroom should have.
That having been said, it was one of the noisiest rooms I have ever had (ground floor windows straight onto Hunter St) so while the traffic slowed for 3 hrs in the middle of the night, it was awful the rest of the time. Add to that a clear lack of soundproofing and banging and knocking noises from the room next door from about 4.00am, and we were not very happy campers.
The parking for our 2.4 meter high vehicle was excellent (4 disabled access parks right out the front) however the only luggage trolley they have, only has 3 wheels, and tips your gear out every time you try to turn a corner.
Staff were lovely and helpful and the place is kept in good condition, however we really couldn't get past the poor night's sleep - let's face facts that is most of what they are selling, and it was very poor. Maybe those ground floor front rooms should be made into offices (or much better soundproofed) & I'm not sure how much better the rest of those front rooms would be?
One of the worst nights sleep I have had for a while.

Room Tip: Get a room in the centre of the hotel as the southern side is Hunter St (very busy) and at the rear...
