“Nice place in Newcastle”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 29, 2012

We stayed at Noahs with a last minute booking to attend a wedding. The room on the 5th floor had a great view over the beach. Room was very good, and the bathroom was very clean and presentable although it showed signs of needing some work (cracked tiles). The small bar was a pleasant place to have a couple of drinks before the wedding reception, and the food was of high quality. Great to listen to the sound of the surf. Happy to recommend.

Room Tip: Get an Ocean View room, however the views over the harbour are also OK.

Monday lunch can be a tricky place for fine dining in Newcastle. All the elite restaurants having a well deserved day of rest. Noah's ticks most of my boxes.

Service and the room are very formal. Old school formal. If you feel uncomfortable with this style you are going to feel out of place. With this in mind enjoy the very solid 2 or 3 course lunch menu and small but deverse wine list.

Along with the formal setting a huge glass front gives you panoramic views of Newcastle beach and maybe get to see a dolphin or whale.

Pro's: Stunning views and fantastic location, very reasonable food, and generally lovely people with a good customer service attitude throughout.

Con's: bathrooms that time forgot, 10am checkout with (what the f***?), internet fees (not really acceptable in 2012)

Was lucky enough to need a room at last minute and my company paid a little extra for an Ocean View Room.
Beautiful furnishings and decor - spectacular views.
Love the fact I could open the sliding door to the balcony and have the sound of the waves all night.

A colleague was not so lucky. He got a standard room non-ocean side on a low floor. Sad view of the grotty carpark and the side of the building next door.
Room furnishings not anywhere the same standard as mine.

Hey - you can be lucky sometimes.

Room Tip: Definitely pay the extra for a refurbished room - and partticularly on the ocean side

I've stayed at Noah's a few times for conferences in the past few weeks and each time was very enjoyable. Location is superb just across the road from the beautiful main beach and close to cafes, restaurants, shops and parks. An easy two block walk from the station (2.5hrs to Sydney) or adequate parking under or adjacent to the hotel if you drive.

I've stayed in both city view and beach view rooms - beach view is well worth the extra $$ as long as you are on Level 2 or higher. No complaints at all about the rooms - plush, quiet, clean, well equipped and comfortable. Although not huge, this shouldn't matter too much as the location is so good you don't spend much time inside. Even with a thumping surf 100m away, soundproofing is very good when the floor to ceiling windows are closed.

I've dined at their restaurant a few times and always had excellent meals and service - superb views of the beach too. All staff are helpful, polite, professional and nothing seemed a bother.

Would happily stay again when next in this increasingly vibrant and interesting city.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms Level 2 or above to get a good view if staying ocean-side.

Our bed really took the edge off our stay - it was old and soft. The pillows were hard too. We had a bed board installed and this helped a bit. The bathrooms are also old and dated and poorly lit - but they were very clean and I can live with this in an older property.

On the plus side, the staff were consistently fantastic over our three night stay. The hotel has a nice ambience and great views. We were mid level on the ocean side. Next time I'd try the harbour side higher up.

This is a hard hotel to review as I liked the experience but felt let down by the bed in particular. Some simple upgrading would make a huge difference.

We also found some nice eating places within a short walk from the hotel.

Room Tip: Get a bed board!

Having read some of the reviews I was concerned about my booking for Noahs, however, I was pleasantly surprised. We had a high ocean view and the views were spectacular, but I don't think the view from the cheaper priced mid floor would have been any less and it would have been cheaper.
I disagree with other reviewers that it is "tired", in my opinion it's because it is older style not ultra modern. Everything looked as though it had just been refurbished. Everywhere was spotless, bed was very comfortable and there was no noise. Yes the balcony was small, but I wasn't there to stand or sit on the balcony, it was adequate for the photos I wanted to take. You didn't have to go onto the balcony to appreciate the view. Bathroom was OK, but I do have to whinge about the cheap toilet paper, at $240 a night I expect better!
Good location, walkable to lots of good restaurants and cafes,
On returning to the hotel after dinner at 10.30pm I was a bit shocked to find the bar closed and room service only until 11pm. As we were celebrating a special event with family who live in Newcastle it would have been nice to have been able to have a drink in the bar instead of us all having to sit in our room and drink from the bar fridge!! 10.30 on a Friday night!!!
All in all we enjoyed our stay there and wouldn't hesitate to go back, but I will be finding out what time the bar at the Sebel closes!

Room Tip: The 5th flr "high level" would have a very similar view to the cheaper "mid flr"...
