“Great beachfront location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 10, 2011

Interesting to read the recent poor reviews for Noahs. We stayed in a 5th floor room overlooking the beach. Views were sensational and we were obviously high enough to avoid any noise problems mentioned by others. I agree the rooms are quite small and the decor is dated, so if the colour scheme of your room is important, then this place might not suit you. That said, it was spotlessly clean, and well maintained for its age. But the reason I'd return is because it is literally across the road from a beautiful, patrolled surf beach, really safe for children to play, and walking distance to the main part of town, restaurants and cafes. I had considered other places along the foreshore but I'm really glad I chose Noahs for its proximity to the surf beach. Price wasn't cheap, but you will always pay more for beachfront and views. Dealing with several different reception staff over our 3 day stay, all were genuinely friendly and helpful. I got a better rate booking direct with the hotel than I could find on the web.

I appreciate a good night sleep when on the road, I did not get it here, The in room refrigerator made dripping noises all night. if you plan on eating at the attach restaurant breakfast is $18, lunch in the $36, and pack dinner wear, they dress up for meals. my work clothes had me in the bar. There are other placing to eat with in easy walking distance, one to two blocks.

Room Tip: A room with a beach view is worth it, looking out at the parking lot leaves a lot to be desired

We made a mistake choosing Noah' on the beach.
The complimentary car park was full- even the vacant plot next door that serves as the hotels overflow car park was full. Our room was small rundown. even the pillows were old and rock hard. fittings are old and worn, as are appliances like hair driers, jugs and the fridge rattles and groans.
The views from the 1st floor rooms are obscured by the huge tin roof of the restaurant
Dance music blasted from below from 7.30pm until 11.45pm. Staff could not care less and
did nothing to rectify this.
If you expect a reasonably comfortable quiet stay and to be able to sleep stay somewhere else.

Room Tip: Try a room at another hotel

We thought to have a nice quiet night away to just enjoy our self’s and choose Noah’s on the beach at Newcastle!! well that was the first mistake the rooms are run down and not worth the money that they charge $265.00 a night Beach side it was really worth $110.00 at the most and that pushing it. The aircon didn’t work and the answer was here have a little heater thank god it wasn’t real cold or hot other wise bad luck suffer, the rooms at very tiered and need a good refurbishment to start with.
You could not leave your balcony door open to enjoy the sound of the surf as people stand out on their balconies and smoke and it blows straight into your room. When staff were informed well sorry can’t do anything even thou there is a notices stating NO SMOKING in rooms or on balconies this has no meaning to other smoking guest or staff. The Beds are as hard as bricks and the pillows felt like they were full of cement there is no softer pillows (if you want to stay here bring your own pillows if you like any form of comfort) and they do not supply any other one’s the room was clean and that was the best part.
My advise to anyone wanting to stay at Noah’s. Is it’s passed it use by date the only redeeming quality to this very rundown old hotel is the restaurant it is worth the star rating not the hotel sorry to say our night away was not what we wanted it to be thanks Noah’s. We will not stay here again and will not recommend this hotel to anybody that we like and want to keep as a friend…

I stayed at Noah's on the Beach and was so pleased to find place that had very friendly staff who knew what they were doing - and Why !
The reception was welcoming.
The room comfortable with a great view.
The dinning was classic old fashioned service with STYLE !
The food was excellent. Diner and Breakfast.
I will most definitely be back when visiting the region.

My very first stay here was in 2005 when it is still not under the Quality chain and I thought oh what a quaint little property. The rooms then were quite old but still charming with the English looking sink in the bathroom & the nice shade of turquoise paint in the feature wall in the room which really makes the room looking nicer than it is. My second visit was in May 2011 this hotel is now a Quality chain. When I stepped in, I no longer feel it was this quaint little place that it used to be. The place felt cold. I can see they have not refurbished the place since my last visit so the rooms look quite bad now, inferior toiletries. The comp milk in the fridge has expired. Staff are ok, not rude or anything. Some are more friendly. Jonah's the only restaurant onsite is still quite good like it used to be many years back. They still had the morpeth roll that I love love love. Room service is just ok presentation wise, as expected from a smaller hotel. Food quality is good though. I have come to realise that I must lower my expectations when it comes to service & quality in smaller towns. They are usually more expensive and you get a lot less. Having said that, I still think this place is overpriced for a 3 star property, both room rates as well as F&B. I got beach facing rooms for both my visits, so the view is nice. Walking distance to cafes nearby (beach facing). Hotel parking is free. If you like framing postcards as art pieces, don't forget to get the 2 free ones in the room (in the folder). They sell them at the front desk too.

We stayed at Noah's last weekend on an indulgence package. For the price charged, which was similar to what we would pay for a 4-5 star hotel in Sydney or Melbourne we had reasonably high expectations. However the room was very small, the bed small, and the bathroom was atrocious. The bath was very small and there was mould all around the walls, the mirror was chipped and battered and there was a tacky shower curtain around the bath. The fridge was noisy all night as well. Perhaps we were forewarned as we arrived at the hotel - the 'free car parking' meant a place on a vacant weed filled block of land next door. No concierge, no one offering to take bags to your rooms...not what you would get for this price in a major city. As for the restaurant - good view but food only reasonable for the price, waiters were sloppy (dropping plates on our table and reaching over us) and the breakfast not nearly as extensive as that served for a similar price in Sydney or Melbourne.. All I can think is that they can get away with such charges....because they have little competition. My advice - look at what else is available nearby...

Room Tip: Get them to assure you bathroom is renovated.
