“Two centuries in three hours!”
Reviewed January 27, 2014

We visited Fort Scratchley on Australia Day and really enjoyed all the activity including a variety of vintage army transportation for children and adults to sit in, cannons of all sizes which were fired throughout the day and other large army relics. The volunteers were dressed in a variety of army clothing from the past and they were so interesting to talk to and obviously really enjoyed sharing their knowledge. From the Fort we had an amazing view of the harbour and the city of Newcastle. The tunnel tour was also interesting and my children aged 9 - 13 agreed that it was an excellent tourist attraction for all ages.

“pleasant way to spend your time in newcastle”
Reviewed January 27, 2014

I had a day in newcastle on a cruise, so decided to look at the fort and nobbys and the breakwater. This took longer than I thought as there is a lot of walking involved, but it is worth doing.I didnt do the tunnel tour, but there was enough free stuff to make it interesting, especially as I was there when they fired the gun.Nobbys lighthouse was also open(the huts only), and there was a lot of historical photos and info.I even learnt that Nobbys top was chopped off to make it easier for the sailing boats to get around it.Also I reckon its called that because originally it DID look like a nobbly old nose.

“Stunning views with a side of history”
Reviewed January 12, 2014

The views are worth it alone, however it is the lesser known encounter with the Japs during WW2 which make this a must do when in Newcastle. The fort also has a wealth of great, friendly, knowledge people more then happy to share their knowledge with you of the fort, Australia's involvement in WW2 and of course the history of the greater Newcastle region. Highly recommended.

“Great views”

Fab views over Newcastle. Did not have the time to take the tunnels trip but it looked worth it. Take the time to watch the introductory movie and also looking over the city

“History I didn't know”
Reviewed January 3, 2014

Interesting history; friendly volunteers; guided tunnel tour; great view. Bit of a slog uphill for us oldies who'd been walking all day.
