“Rare access to historical site”

Fort Scratchley is one of the oldest forts in Australia & one of the few to come under attack & effectively respond in the Second World War. It is worth seeing.

“Do the Tour”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 12, 2012

This fort is interesting, but you really have to do the tour, which helps you understand it all. kids were really interested and tour length was good for the teenagers, with the 10yr old struggling just a little

“Enjoyable for all ages”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 8, 2012

Whether just accessing the site for free and enjoying the amazing views, or paying for the tour of the tunnels, Fort Scratchley is amazing! The volunteer staff are all lovely and knowledgable - they take such pride in the Fort. It was wonderful to learn so much of Australian War History. We will definitely go back again!!

“Excellent australian war history.”

The barracks and hospital of early Newcastle. The guns in the fort were the only guns on the east coast of Australia to fire upon the enemy in WWII. Great tunnels. A must visit in Newcastle, and perched on a hilltop overlooking spectacular nobbys beach!

“Military base in Historical Newcastle East”

Great attraction for the historical buff and tourist. Artillery and cannons and the like, there is a guide to take you through to tell you of past times and the submarines that entered Newcastle Harbour.
