We stayed one night after going to the newcastle entertainment centre to see a show(10/15min )walk away....upon arrival we were met by a very pleasant female staff member who explained everything and she also took us to our room...the room was spotlessly clean and the decor very tasteful.

Infact we found all the staff to be very helpful and pleasant.

We ate in the dinning room never thought to book a table but as we were guests they found us a table even though it was very busy.

Would we stay again and recommend this Hotel... most definitely

We stayed in Sunnyside Tavern just for one night on our way to Sydney. This place is an exelent choice and very good value for money. The bed was good quality and the room was in superb condition, a bit small though but definitely ok if you don't intend to stay for long. Staff was really cool and helpful and it's also a great place to eat and have a beer or two. Parking lots available next to the building.

A really good renovation but if you want to sleep before midnight then check if they have a live band on. They certainly do on Saturday nights.

Shared bathrooms are good. Bed linen and pillows good quality.

Stayed here with 2 friends whilst in Newcastle to watch international netball series at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre which is within walking distance. The hotel is a little out of town but the staff helped us out by driving us in on the afternoon that we first arrived. The rooms have been recently renovated and are in good condition although a bit small. Over all a good place to stay if you need to be near the ent. centre.

Only stayed one night (Saturday) and found the room quite modern although smallish. The bathroom is very clean but really tiny. The shower recess had no shelves so everything, e.g. shampoo, soap had to go on the recess floor. The water was nice and hot and the shower very powerful, but due to the small space, hubby had to leave the bathroom to dry himself off, he is a large size man, but that is impractical. They also advertise there are hairdryers in the rooms, which is not correct. Apparently there are only three in the hotel, so we had to have one delivered to the room. Not a big problem and when it arrived, it was a good one. The bed was very comfortable but the noise outside the room made it difficult to sleep. They had a live band playing the night we stayed, which were very good, but we could hear them loud and clear in our room up until about 12am! There is also some sort of generator which seems to start up every hour or so, again making it very difficult to get a good night's sleep. We had a few drinks in the bar, the staff are very friendly, even shouted us a drink! That was a nice gesture. We ate in the restaurant where the food and service were very good. The hotel is a little out of the way, position wise, but would be good if you were attending a concert at the Entertainment Centre or were going to the Football Stadium. All in all, an OK stay but the noise of the band was a little too much, so I would probably not stay there again.

Room Tip: Ask for one away from the noise, if possible.

Beware-a one bedroom family suite is one big room only. Quickbeds and wotif rate same as direct hotel website.
Avoid friday nights-our room 1 was directly above the band-very noisy, you could feel the floor shaking/vibrating. Band finished playing around 11pm.
Had to park the car on the street-little hotel parking, esp on weekends I would predict.
Comfy beds, nice new bathrooms. Communal coffee machine with pods supplied but no milk. Thought too pricey for the room and the area. Probably wont return.

Hi Alison,
Thanks for taking the time to write a review. I'm sorry that your stay wasn't what you had hoped for. The hotel does get quite busy on weekends and when the patrons are enjoying the band noise can be a problem. I have instructed our website hosts to make it more apparent on the accommodation page of our website that we do have soloists or duos on a Friday and Saturday night from 8pm until 11pm so that future guests are made aware.
The long weekend that you stayed was even busier than normal with practically all of Newcastle's accommodation booked out which unfortunately will lead to a higher room rate than on normal weekends.
I'm glad you found the rooms nice and comfy, we completely refurbished them 15 months ago and we are very proud of how the rooms look and also of the service our staff offer. However, I do feel that we dropped the ball by not providing your room with milk and I sincerely apologise for this.
Once again Alison, thanks for the feedback.
