“Surprisingly quiet for pub accom (but then it wasn't Fri/Sat night we stayed)”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 11, 2012

We arrived very late as we'd driven a long way and the very helpful night cleaner assisted us with checking in and helped us with our bags. I requested a quiet room since the accommodation is above a pub but this may have been a mistake as our room was a 3-day camel trek winding through dark corridors to enter/exit the place! Though the room was indeed quiet. The bathroom was very modern but we felt overall the room was dark and rather airless but perhaps this was just the location of our room. The hallways/corridors could do with better lighting. We ordered big breakfasts but were quite disappointed with them, butter/margarine and salt are apparently extra options you have to pay for! Who orders toast and doesn't expect butter/margarine? You just get dry toast! The next day we went down to the cafe a few doors along, Euro Patisserie, which was absolutely superb, very busy but the breakfasts delicious, coffee divine and cost less than the hotel breakfasts. It is reasonable accommodation and the staff are pleasant but I doubt we will be back again.

As a women travelling alone, I felt safe and the room was clean and modern. Was good to be able to eat dinner at the bistro downstairs, rather than going out at night, after a long drive to get there. Relatively quick and easy to get to John Hunter Hospital the next morning. Pleased to use free off street parking overnight.

When I booked accommodation over the phone, I asked about 24 hr reception as I would need a cab to leave very early next morning. The receptionist assured me it could be organised he night before. Obviously, she made a note of it because the friendly fellow who checked me in spoke about it and made the booking straight away.

The rooms are upstairs above a pub and are accessed via a lift and then you have to meander along a big wide hallway to the rooms. My room was clean, well equipped in a minimalist style and modern. It overlooked the central part of the premises, so no view. Very comfortable bed and everything else worked and seemed quite well maintained - the odd random scratch that looks like someone's caught the edge of a bag going past. For once, a place that thinks guests might like more than one type of tea - there were four flavours of tea, hot chocolate mix and coffee!

Downstairs, there is a busy pub restaurant with a good variety of dishes on the menu alongside a couple of busy bars. I asked about bringing my meal upstairs to my room and they offered to bring it up for me. Given how busy they were, I was surprised how quickly it arrived. Good food. No noise from the pub in the accommodation.

Staff interaction (personal and observations of interaction with others) showed they were friendly, professional and cared about their patrons!

Everything is positive about this place as a 'business' hotel - somewhere to stay when you have things to attend to, although it's probably not the place for a romantic getaway.

We stayed for one night and overall we were happy with the place. The room is nicely furbished and has enough space. The room was very clean and the hotel staff was very friendly and helpful.
We stayed in Newcastle to watch the Knights - Sea Eagles game and were very pleased about the free shuttle service that was offered by the hotel/pub.
We booked the bed & breakfast option and chose the breakfast the night before - they don't offer a classic buffet but you can choose from a range of things the night before . The selection catered for all kinds of tastes.
The only real downside was the noise that came from a function at the restaurant/ pub below our room. They transformed one room obviously into a dancefloor - very noisy!!! Maybe this was exceptional though!

I stopped here only because other hotels were booked out and it was getting late. The room was so small that you can barely walk between the desk/chairs and end of the bed. As a corp. traveller I need to do book work at the end of the day and trying to do this in this tiny box hole room was tedious and frustrating.
Undercover parking is tiny and a few cars fill this space. Reception book in/out was hassle free and very friendly. The food in the bistro in the pub downstairs was fair - I didn't have breakfast there but it was the usual boring type of breakfast menu.
The air conditioner was either way too hot for such a tiny space but if the temperature was lowered below 23 degrees it blew out cold air - very uncomfortable.
Next time I will travel the extra few Kms to Newcastle and wake up refreshed and in a much better mood.

We stayed here for 2 nights. Had a roll away bed for our daughter. Very clean room, close to westfields, small corner store just down the street. The pub next door had a live band one night, but we couldn't hear it. The shower area was just a curtained off section in the bathroom and the water went all over the floor, as there was no recess to keep it in the shower area. Other than that, were staying here again in two months time!

Best kept secret, rooms are exceptional - better then motel rooms. Very clean and very quite for being above a hotel. A good pub meal and the beer is cold - what else do you need. The overall price makes it a great stay. There is also secure parking at the rear.

Close to hospital, westfields and the city.
