“Lovely rooms and friendly staff - great pub accom”
Reviewed June 5, 2012

If you are looking for a hotel/motel type of place - then the Windsor Castle is not for you. But if you want a place with friendly staff, nice bistro and very nice rooms . . then you will be happy here.

The Windsor Castle is a "pub" . a nice one - but still a pub. So there is no official reception desk and trying to get a tax invoice at the end of my stay was a little tricky - but I got it.

The rooms are very new and very nice - a little on the small side - but with big bathrooms. No writing desk but there is a lounge chair. Digital TV - ironing board - tea and coffee . .so all the stuff you need really. No room service but they do a Continental breakfast for you - lunch and dinner is at the bistro.

There is live music on Fri and Sat nights and I cannot say if this noise gets through to the rooms. The pub is not on the highway so very little road noise.

Probably not the first choice for a business person - but like I said . . " great pub accommodation "

you spend far TOOOOOOOOOOO long in line to order your food. Its really quick to come to your table after you have spent half the night in line! The food is usually great. The shop-a-dockets can be downloaded, or ask around, most people will have extra, and give you one.

Stayed at the Windsor Castle on an overnight stop to the Barrington Tops. I wanted to stay in Maitland itself and did not realise that Maitland East was different from Maitland Town Centre. Both had streets called High St and I thought it was the town centre. Maitland East is a couple kms (I may be wrong about the distance) from the town centre. It is much smaller and less shops.

Their brochure advertises that it is a short walk to the Maitland Goal and Morpeth – it is not.

The Windsor Castle is part of a drinking and dining establishment. The room was well insulated. We could not hear any noises from the diners or drinkers. A good opportunity to enjoy a few drinks and stagger to your room.

There are no lifts to the 1st floor. So if you have big bags, it may be wise to request a ground floor room.

The rooms were spacious with a double bed and a king single for my child. The bathroom/toilet was a bit tiny. There was no where to put your toiletries and we had to leave some items on the floor. There was a tiny space attached to the basin but things kept getting knocked onto the floor when we used the taps. The flat screen TV had a lot of sport channels. They had the usual tea/coffee items.

They had a bistro which seems to be very popular. We strolled down at about 6:45 pm for dinner and were surprised to see a queue of people almost out of the door, lining up to order food. It took us 45 mins to reach the counter just to order food. That said, the food came very quickly and was not too bad. A lot of people seem to have some sort of discount coupons for dinner – maybe which is why there were so many people.

The Maitland Information Centre had a nice café and at that time, the potato and leek soup was just divine. Noticed that a lot of locals go there for lunch – a good sign.
