Visited here on and off over the years when visiting family. Always a winner. Great food and staff. Never had a bad experience here. Great wood fired pizza and salad is served here. Always a family favourite.

“Not worthy of the rave reviews”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 9, 2013

Visiting Dubbo for the first time, we went to Trip Advsor to find out the best places to eat as per normal.
We strolled around in the late afternoon and saw 4 of the top 5 restaurants in Dubbo within a 15 minute walk and chose this one to eat at for our first night, albeit that their website still displayed the Winter menu in Summer.

A friendly greeting, nice table, bottle of water without asking...good start.

Then we ordered the food and wine which also came quite quickly (wine that is) and from then it all went down hill.

Yes, there was a misunderstanding about our entree which was fine but we had to pour our own wine throughout the meal, the 'prawn ravioli' had 2 small prawns in 10 ravioli, our son's pizza was raw, especially in the middle and my pizza was stone cold.

The restaurant was only 70% full on a Saturday night, but the few staff could not cope.

My wife is a chef and hates bad service and food and always complains if it is not right...and why not...at $27 for pizza, it's not cheap. The lady owner, chose to argue in a very offhand tone, saying, ' we like to offer big toppings', not apologise for the badly cooked food and she begrudgingly refunded my son's pizza of which he only ate one piece.

All in all, this place has lots of potential, but with poor service, badly cooked food and the inability to cope with criticism graciously, this was a disappointing experience and we will not be back.

“Revolting Restaurant.”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 7, 2013 via mobile

We went to Sticks and Stones because others had said it was good.
It was awful. The arrancini was sauces-less (who does that), the pizza was cold and raw pizza base and my 'hand-made' prawn ravioli was half cheese raviolis to make it stretch...and it wasn't cheap. The horrible owner was rude and offhand to criticism less than the food deserved. Don't eat here if you have self respect or taste buds.

“Unexpectedly good!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 4, 2013

I visited this restaurant on a work trip recently and was pleasantly surprised. The staff were welcoming and friendly. Food is good, with generous portions and the menu has a lot of choice. The only negative was the Pizza, which was undercooked. The toppings were raw and cold, which was disconcerting and I was unable to eat it. Possibly a one off due to a busy night and I was already full so it didn't matter. I will dine here again next trip.

“Delicious food, ample servings”

We visited this restaurant after a morning at the Western Plains Zoo. The restaurant has a relaxed ambience, and the menu was fantastic. The food was delicious and serving sizes were generous. Also, not too pricey.
