We stayed three nights during a heatwave. Thank goodness the cabin we were in had a decent airconditioner! When we arrived the temperature was above 40 degrees celcius (not unusual for Dubbo in January) and while it did take a while for the airconditioner to cool the cabin down, it did work and we sat in front of it for several hours while we cooled down a little.

The 7-berth Mitchell Suite cabin was well appointed and spacious enough for the two adults and two kids to spread out. My kids loved the dual bunk beds - it meant they both got to sleep in the top bunk. Bed linen was appropriate and it's great to see all beds made up - many cabin parks either require you to bring linen for the kids or make the beds up yourself.

The mattresses on the master bed and the double bed underneath one of the bunk beds were, however, a bit thin and not very supportive. I woke up in pain/with pins and needles each morning having tried both double beds.

The cabin was well appointed with crockery and cutlery and the oven/fridge were great. We had breakfast in the cabin each day and had everything we needed. There is a large supermarket/liquor store nearby so you can stock up on supplies very easily.

The park has a small kiosk from where you can also get coffees/ice creams and bread/milk.

The pool is small but adequate. It was a godsend for our kids during such incredibly hot weather.

The checkin/checkout process was very smooth.

The park is only 5 minutes' drive from the Western Plains Zoo (awesome!) and about 10 minutes to the centre of town.

I would definitely recommend this cabin park for families.

Room Tip: Definitely go for the 'luxury' cabins in summer. You'll be grateful for the aircondition...

Thanks for this feedback and we understand how much more comfortable the air conditioned cabins can make your stay, especially during the recent unprecedented heat wave. We have noted your comments about the mattress and will investigate this further. We hope to see you back at BIG4 Dubbo Parklands soon

We stayed for one night on four separate occasions over December 2012, we has a tent and wanted a tent site each time. Each time we were charged a different price for the same thing (an un-powered site) and they tried to get us on a powered site on two occasions that we did not ask for! We booked ahead each time for the following visit, and each time they either forgot the booking or tried to give us a different sort of site than the one we had asked for. On only one occasion was the person at reception vaguely friendly or polite, the other times we felt we were an imposition on them.

As we were traveling between Melbourne and Brisbane Dubbo was the logical place to stop. Next time we are going to stretch the extra 1 and 1/2 hours to Coonabarabran.

Will not be going back.

Dubbo Parklands was smaller than I expected but never the less quite worthy as a stop over. We only stayed one night. Dubbo has no shortage of accommodation choices but this time I chose DP because I was with the family. My initial booking had to be moved because we didn't make it - they wouldn't refund our money but instead gave us a credit to use within 12 months - and we used it today.

The cabins are clean and comfortable. The pool was a bit of a disappointment - on the day we visited it was very hot and the (quite small but thankfully very deep) pool was very busy. This would have been OK except that because it's so busy, they keep the Chlorine very strong (and so they should). Bit hard on the eyes after a while. Unfortunately the pool was also quite soapy - a common problem where managements permit people to wear clothes (instead of strictly swimwear only) in a pool. You couldn't see the bottom.

They have the usual collection of playground equipment, common room (with projection TV) and a jumping pillow.

Overall I would rate it higher except for the soap in the pool problem. Also, for what it is (and where), I would say it's a bit pricey especially for the larger cabins.

Stayed in a Cabin to go to the zoo in Dubbo, was a last minute thing - The park staff were great, since there was a mixup with the booking process on the website. They thought we were coming the next night. But it was all fixed up by them, and we got there and had no fuss at all.
Service provided by them was good - friendly, and I appreciated it after a long drive.
Only minor thing which we reported was that the cabin facilities had not been properly cleaned, which was the only reason why I dropped from Excellent to Very Good.
Inspection of the cabin I believe is a must (from now on) but in the end, it didn't really mar our stay unduely. The pool was used by a LOT of people, I think maybe a bigger pool would be in order??? hahaha. The jumping Pillow was way cool fun too!
Certainly kept our car close to us at all times, and all valuables, etc out of sight. Park info says this repeatedly on back of paperwork - also family in the area tipped us off too. So, keep valuables out of sight... (if you can get tinting on your car, it helps... harder to look in at nite.)

Room Tip: There is some noise from the road (Newell Hwy) in the cabins, but unfortunately I think the noise le...

We stayed in the Serengeti tent. What fun . Of course we visited the zoo which is not far so the tent stay was fantastic though it was glamping not camping. The bathroom was a delight with a double shower! Totally enjoyed our evenings sitting on the decking listening to the cockatoos settling for the evening. It was better than a cabin. There is a heater if needed in winter and a fan in summer but with flaps up there was a lovely breeze flow through. Will try and stay again when in Dubbo.

WE stayed at the Big4 Caravan park as it was the closest to the Dubbo Zoo and had a good amount of amenities for our 6 YO - the heated pool, the jumping pillow, the BMX track and sand pit. However, we discovered one amenity that was required that we wouldn't have thought of looking for. Unfortunately, our car was broken into during the night while we were sleeping in the tent 4 metres away. The thieves smashed the back window - we thought it was possums getting into the cutlery box! That same night 2 other families had things taken from thier car or caravan (yes, the thieves entered the unlocked caravan while they were sleeping!) We were informed by the Dubbo police that it happens less at the other caravan parks as they don't border the park and have internal CCTV cameras. The staff were helpful at first, but after being out all day dealing with the replacement of the side window of the car, the broken window was still on the grassy area near our tent after the manager had said he would clear it away. When I went to the reception, the afternoon shift knew nothing about the triple burglary of that same morning. The manager came to pickup the glass but clearly was not pleased with having to do it. And was less than pleasant to me.
The owners should be taking due diligence and placing internal CCTV cameras at strategic spots within the park. Otherwise, we wouldn't recommend staying there. Nothing like a break-in to disrupt the family holiday!!

Room Tip: Noisy from the highway passing by.

We're really sorry that such an awful incident occurred on your holiday and are certainly taking this situation very seriously, working closely with the local police to alleviate the problem. We do have CCTV cameras but they do not cover every nook and cranny of the park. We are puzzled by the lack of response in cleaning up the broken glass as it is usually our highest priority to attend to matters such as this. We also thank you for your feedback as it has given us a chance to discuss ways that we can improve our communication both within the office and with our guests.

We have stayed here for the past 9 years with up to 60 12 year olds from Brisbane! Fantastic and clean with excellent food. The rooms worked well and the staff were very helpful. We did have students with dietary requirements and these were catered for well. The location is great as we left early the next morning to go to the zoo. Everyone slept well and the staff are well catered for. We will be coming again next year and I am sure that we will continue to do so.
