We loved the nostalgic charm of the Imperial. I reminded me of visits to these types of hotels with my parents, but this place would be 100% improvement on the hotels of yesteryear. For us it was a different but pleasant experience. It had character and charm but was so different to the run-of- the- mill accommodation, yet we still had the flat screen TV and the ensuite and the extras that the modern traveller expects.
Pauline was a lovely host. The concept of communal breakfast was great: enabling us to meet other travellers. Our bed was very comfortable and we loved the hotel style room – we were lucky to have the place pretty much to ourselves. We took a drink and some munchies out to the huge verandah and just watched Broken Hill go by.
If you want glossy mirrors and tiles all that sort of bling, stay away, if you want a cosy, comfortable room yet with all the mod cons with privacy and quiet, and if you appreciate history, you will like it.

Room Tip: pauline was a good hostess and will put you in a nice room

Four of us stayed 4 nights and had everything we needed, except a laundry to do some washing, we found a laundromat so all had clean clothes. It had great beds, quiet eventhough we were on one of the main streets, the kitchen had a great get your own breakfast, chilled water and it was walking distance to the main area.
A great way to start our visit to Broken Hill and lovely hostess

Room Tip: We were upstairs,a bit of a load with heavy bags,

My partner and I stayed overnight at the hotel, and shared the accommodation with only one other guest. We arrived in the heat of the afternoon, and really appreciated having a clean and private pool to cool down. The room was very comfortable, but unfortunately, the other guest was in the room above ours, and there isn't much in the way of acoustic attentuation between floors, so noise was a dissapointment. Other than that, we enjoyed having the run of the place to play pool, swim in the pool, cook our own breakfast (all provisions included in the price), and hanging out on the balcony with a cool ale. We'd gladly stay again, as the price was quite reasonable.

Having stayed at the hotel for one night whilst on a business trip I was a little confused about the name 'Imperial Fine' as it did not match up to my expectations.
The room size and furniture was very comfortable and in line with the age of the beautiful old building but unfortunately other areas were left wanting.
As the ensuites were put in later for modern accomodation the pump systems required to move waste were very loud and almost embarrassing to use as you were concerned that people staying in other rooms would hear.
A share kitchen to prepare your own breakfast (food supplied) was not something that I was comfortable with, but as this was the only place where you could utilise a refridgerator, if you wished to keep any food or drink cold, a shared public space was the only option- something I would expect more from a backpackers.
The email service that I received to confirm my booking was prompt and polite, but also showed more personality than the gentleman who showed me to my room and collected payment. Perhaps I struck him on a bad day.
I will continue to travel to Broken Hill for business, but I am afraid that I will not be staying at this business again.

Room Tip: Room was a good size, but limited personal facilities.

This property just enriches the Broken Hill experience. What a grand old building. Great service by host Bill - thanks for the wonderful stay

Room Tip: Go for an upstairs room to have direct access to the exceptional verandah

My hasband and I stayed at Imperial for 2 nights in early Jan 2012. The hotel is in the centre of Broken Hill. The location is very convenient. The building is very classic and unique. If you like the old royal style, please go and have a try. It won't disappoint you. There are 6 bedrooms. Each of them has a reasonable size for small families (a couple + 1/2 kids). They offer self-served breakfast which include bacon, eggs, fruit, tea, coffee, bread and cereals. There are some rumors about a ghost in the hotel. But we didn't see it. Before we checked out, my husband did ask the owner Bill if there is a ghost. He said he didn't see any and his sister Pauline (another owner) has never seen any either. He said it might be because neither of us are too "sensitive" to this kind of thing and that's why we couldn't see it :-) Another thing that interests us is a cellar door on the ground of the billiards room. If you are interested in searching ghost, you may go under and have a go. (My husband and I opened the cellar door when no one was in the room. It was very dark underneath and looked very scary. We didn't go under and I don't know if the owner would allow you to go under though.)
