“Geat food”

I ate here twice and enjoyed both meals very much. I was travelling on my own for work but had no issues sitting on my own and enjoying the great atmosphere, nice wines and very good service.

“Service Staff Were Overwhelmed”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 23, 2013

We went here for a 40th birthday celebration and were really looking forward to it. All in all, we found it to be a big disappointment in the end.

The Palace Hotel is something of a local landmark and it is certainly a beautiful building. But this is a review about the restaurant and not the architecture, and we found the service so lacking that the ambience of the venue was lost.

We started out with wine and dips on the lovely old wooden veranda, but there was no service up there, so we had to go downstairs ourselves to order more pita bread for the dips. There wasn't much bread on offer and we were charged extra for ordering more, which left us unimpressed. The wine was a better deal and we quite enjoyed a nice crisp white.

The meals were adequate but nothing out of the ordinary, and we virtually had to jump up and down to get the attention of staff. It was a business Saturday night when we passed through and there were nowhere near enough service staff. The staff were clearly well-intentioned but they simply couldn't begin to cope with the number of people there and were left apologizing for their performance. This place is not cheap and needs to spend more money on staff to maintain its reputation and service.

“Average service meals over priced”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 6, 2013

Family meal with two children two and four years. Drink order one was forgotten and had to be chased slow to take order. Meals were disappointing, garlic bread as entree didnt get served until we asked for it with main meal. Childrens meals were slow to arrive after adult meals were served they actually forgot to cook them!. Steak expensive extremely small meal serving and would need two side orders to make a meal. Pork belly was over cooked but a meal. Childrens meals and garlic bread were forgotten and we needed to ask for them. Took an hour an half to get their meals which were just fish and chips and snitzel. The only positive was the two dollar kids packs and that they didnt charge us for a kids meal and garlic bread. Left disappointed and wouldnt return nor recommend to friends.

“Step back in time at The Palace Broken Hill”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 2, 2013 via mobile

This hotel is only open after 5 during the week up till mid March so pretty hard to get to see the amazing murals. I rang to ask if I could photograph the walls and the new owner was delightful. They open for lunch on Friday so we went and had a beer and were welcomed to wander around at leisure. GOOD JOB The Palace it would have been heartbreaking to miss out after all the hype. Great example of country hospitality.
