We stayed at Bishop's Court last October so we knew what to expect when we asked my sister and her husband to join us there to celebrate our birthdays. We were met upon arrival by Christine, who made us most welcome and took us on a tour of her beautiful and luxurious home. The furnishings and decor reflect her wonderful taste and experience in her previous career. She has a story for every room and if you are interested in the building, ask her about the changes she and her partner David made to change it from a private residence to a boutique hotel. The chapel is magnificent and just the place to have a private a dinner for twelve people. We occupied two of the upstairs rooms, which had direct access to the spacious balcony overlooking the lush garden, just the place for a quiet drink and a chat. Both rooms (and their beds) were of a good size and very comfortable. Port and chocolates were on the dressing table if we wanted a night cap.
Christine and David are gracious hosts with a wealth of local information to share if asked. Christine's knowledge of where to eat in town includes a detailed run down of their menus. Christine recommended Cobblestone Lane for our celebratory dinner, made all the arrangements to get there and we were not disappointed. The food, presentation and service were all first class and complemented the quality of our accommodation. On our return the downstairs lighting had been dimmed, music was playing softly and a tray of fortified wine (port, muscat and tokay) and chocolates had been left out for us.
We had the continental breakfast. The poached fruit, yoghurt, berries were the highlight.
This is an exceptionally well run and attractive boutique hotel. It warrants more than a one night stay to take full advantage of its many charms. I will stay there again and have recommended to my friends and relatives they stay here too.
