“Abercrombie Tour”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 9, 2014

Bespoke tour by Chis Mason who provided an extensive overview to the historical context of the house with pepper-spotted with informative and highly engaging anecodotes. A passional man who has made the appropriate restoration of the house and gardens his lifelong work. Thanks for sharing this with us.

“Terrific host and perfect way to spend some time”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 30, 2013

I took the tour last weekend, and was met very warmly by Christopher Mason, current owner and very dedicated gentleman heading the family who have committed themselves to the painstaking work of bringing the Scottish baronial style home back to its former glory. Christopher spent an hour with the group of around 20 members of the public, answering all questions asked very adeptly, and often humourously! The family who own Abercrombie House are clearly passionate and dedicated, evidenced by the incredible attention to detail, concern and love for the physical property, but also the history of it and it's surroundings and environment. I thoroughly recommend the tour, and you can stay and look around the gardens for a bit before leaving.

“Bathurst's Baronial Treasure”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 25, 2013

Abercrombie house was built by the Stewart family in the 1870s in the Scottish baronial style. It was home to Australia's first famous archaeologist, James Stewart who specialised in Cypriot and Near eastern Archaeology. The house now is being restored by the Morgan family who have functions, tours and musical evenings there. If you visit the Bathurst visitors centre (opposite the showground) you can see what is planned and if you get the chance, attend one of the events. It is well worth the visit to this unusual, historic residence.

“Hi Tea”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 25, 2013

Had a fabulous high tea here last Sunday afternoon and it was the perfect way to celebrate a birthday with your friends. The food was top quality and the setting perfect. This house is a treasure for those interested in history and antique artifacts.

“Sleeping beauty being woken up”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 2, 2013 via mobile

This lovely old home is being bought back to its former glory and is a functioning family home. Different to other old houses as it is built in a Scottish style rather than English. Still needs lots of work and is quite cluttered but it is their home. Enjoyed being shown around and look forward to visiting again in the future to see their progress
