“Best Farmstay : Especially with small children”

We had the pleasure of staying recently at Barcoos Barn. What a wonderful experience for me, my wife and 2 young daughters. We stayed at the barn room and our girls loved it. The room has a large bedroom for the kids with living space, then a bathroom, parents bed room and front room with dining, living and kitchen. The was plenty of space for us and the kids. They loved the fluffy sheep pillows, dressing gowns and cute toys. The DVD and 2 TV's were great features. The kitchen had everything that you could need when travelling with a family. For us , perhaps most importantly of all it was very clean throughout.

Elaine was a most gracious host and made us feel right at home. The girls LOVED feeding the lambs, calf , chickens and ponys. But without doubt the highlight for them was feeding the lambs, and particularly for me elder one getting her hand licked by the lambs. We went on a wonderful cart ride through the beautiful town of Pethville pulled by Barcoo the Clydesdale.

So many wonderful memories. I have no hesitation in recommending any friend to stay at Barcoo's Barn.

We were wanting to give our 7 year old granddaughter a farm experience and chose Barcoo's Barn based on the range of farm activities included in the very reasonable tariff.

On arrival we were greeted in a genuinely warm counrty way. We were shown to our lodgings and our granddaughter was wisked away by farmer Ken to join in the farm activities while we were left to unpack. Soon after we were welcomed by Elaine our host and were introduced to the other family with whom we would be sharing the farm. From then on it was full steam ahead meeting all the farm yard animals - Cody the Shetland who provided ongoing led pony rides, Prince the horse, Barcoo the gentle giant Clydesdale who took us on a wonderful waggon ride through the streets of nearby Perthville, Lilli, Pilli & Jack the week old lambs, Mollie the calf, Mr Speckles and his harem of chooks and finally the dogs Carly and the working sheep dogs Towser, Max & Oats.

The property is a genuine working farm. Nothing contrived here. Peaceful rural views of rolling hills and cultivated paddocks provided a relaxing backdrop for us city slickers.
Our rooms were clean and comfortable with fresh crisp sheets on the beds adding to the homely feel. A generous continental breakfast was provided that set us up for a busy day to follow.

This property ticked all the boxes for us and the highlight was the hands on experience for our granddaughter. She delighted in the contact with the farm animals. The great strenght of Elaine our host was her charming disposition and ability to make everything happen with a minimum of fuss. Nothing was too much trouble and she created an environment that oozed country chalm.

An excellent place for both adults and three year olds. Lots of hands on feeding of the lambs, calf and chickens. Pony rides and draughthorse tour of the village too! Our unit had beautiiful rural views, very comfy beds and the kitchen/barbeque setup was fine for self catering/ Our hosts were very helpful and friendly. We had a truly relaxing and fun visit. Lunch at the local winery was great and the wine drinkable! The nearby historical village of Rockley was well worth the visit. Small trainspoters will enjoy the line out front (the trains are not that frequent and not noisy for those that aren't so keen on diesels) Great star gazing at night..

When we decided to take our one and two year old to Dubbo Zoo for the Easter weekend, we thought that we needed to break up the long car trip and stay in Bathurst on route. After a search on the net, I found the website for Barcoo's Barn Farmstay and decided to book.

It was a brilliant place...Elaine and Ken's working farm was the highlight of our weekend!

As soon as we arrived, our two year old was marched off to hand feed the three newborn lambs...she was so amazed at the experience and couldn't stop talking about it from then on! The next morning she bottlefed a brand newborn calf and then mixed up some food and fed the chickens. Then the big highlight, a pony ride!

Elaine then treated all of us, with a ride through the village on the cart pulled by the beautiful Clydesdale, Barcoo.

The accommodation was very comfortable with enough room for a number of families on the property. We stayed a self contained section of the homestead and had the run of four rooms. Having a pub with a bistro two minutes away was handy, but there is a camp kitchen on the property- great if you decided to have a BBQ with friends. The free wireless was also a bonus.

Next time we will definitely stay longer, and bring some friends with us to share the experience. We would recommend this to anyone who wants a true farm experience, especially those who have children.
