My daughter had told me about BARCCOS FARM STAY, she had visited with a friend before. I visited with my two daughters at the end of winter 2013.
We stayed in the Barn unit for two evenings in August 2013 , we were only three people but it will comfortably sleep five or six people

We were welcomed by Elaine and Ken and made to feel most welcome and at home from the start of our stay. Elaine on the first evening demonstrated to my daughters (aged 9 and 12) how to feed the lambs they had in a pen, this included showing how to mix the feed; also how to feed the chooks and the horses including Barcoos, a lovely big old Draft Horse after which the Barcoos Farm is named after. He is a lovely old boy, apparently 30 years old with a bit of a scar on his snout
On Saturday morning, “Farmer “Ken took the girls around to feed all the animals and give assistance. He also allowed them to sit atop the farm tractor and steer the tractor in the field for a short way. Later that afternoon we all tumbled in to Farmer Ken’s Ute and went down and across the road to a barn to a tall haystack where we collected bales of hay to feed the horses.
The “Barn Unit” which sleeps six comfortably is well appointed. It has two TV s, a DVD player with a selection of DVDs, an IPod dock…….
The beds all had electric blankets on them. Dressing gowns were provided too. The farm is situated on a rise and has a lovely view from the accommodation.
Barcoo’s is close enough from the middle of the Bathurst city centre to drive to ( approximately 10 kms) for a meal and buy provisions from the local supermarkets including ALDI.
I can highly recommend a peaceful stay at Barcoos to enjoy a reprieve from the Sydney big smoke and complemented by the hospitality and sincere friendliness of Elaine and “Farmer” Ken.
Mark Humphrey.

Room Tip: Dont drive into central Bathhurst to get there from Sydney

We just had a 3 night stay at Barcoo's Barn. It was fantastic and we highly recommend it. Our kids (5 and 3) enjoyed every minute from mixing the porridge for the chooks, to feeding the lambs to pony rides on Cody, a giant tractor ride and admiring Mr Barcoo the horse. The scenery is lovely and Elaine and Ken were so welcoming and hospitable. We stayed in 'The Barn' which was spacious and cosy and the kids enjoyed playing fetch with the dogs and watching the country trains go past. It was great to cook our own bacon and eggs on the bbq with freshly collected eggs and Elaine gave us plenty of ideas of things to do in the local area, such as visit Abercrombie Caves and enjoy homemade icecream in town. The kids are desperate to go back and we will visit again when our 3 week old is ready for all these experiences. it definitely was fun for the kids whilst providing a sense of responsibility and achievement as they cared for the animals.

We camped here in August to a few days with our young children. They had an absolute ball. Elaine and Ken are super nice, and great with kids. It is a rustic experience on a prOper farm. Cause of that expect to get a bit dirty and muddy. It can also be cold at that time of year. We had electric blankets and heaters in Amur camper and that worked well. Thermals also went in handy for the night time sessions at the fire.

This was our second visit to Barcoo's and it was even better than the first. Ken and Elaine make you feel like part of the family and go out of their way to include the whole family in all the fun farm activities.

Baby lambs to bottle feed and cuddle , chickens and sheep to hand feed and Cody the pony for a ride with Elaine leading him. Then their is gentle Barcoo the draught horse for a pat while he eats his breakfast and maybe a ride in the tractor with Farmer Ken.

Just 5 mins out of Bathurst , beautiful location and lovely , clean and comfortable accommodation.

Our 4 yr old absolutely loved it and so did we. This won't be our last visit.

We stayed 2 nights in early July for our son's birthday and the kids already want to return. We stayed in the Hillview unit which was perfect for the 4 of us. It's very clean, beds are comfortable, good size rooms and great outlook over the property. Elaine and Ken are wonderful people and great with children; they involve the kids (and adults) in everything that has to be done and also give them plenty of time to have fun with pony and cart rides and driving the tractor. The animals are very sociable, even with the kids. We bottle fed 2 day old lambs, fed the sheep and cattle, brushed the horses, played with the dogs, drove the tractor, watch the working dogs herd the sheep, roasted marshmallows over a small fire and collected fresh eggs.

If you are looking for a great farm stay then this place is it. It's only 10 mins out of Bathurst so you are close to a big town if you need anything. You can see by the other reviews that no one has a bad time here so you can be assured of a good time. We will be going back and are even trying to get other family to join us.

Room Tip: Choose the Hillview for smaller families and the Barn for bigger groups.

We stayed two nights at Barcoo's Barn with our eight year old granddaughter who is crazy about animals. She was out at every opportunity feeding the lambs, chickens and cattle, 'driving' the tractor and riding the shire horse and Shetland pony. Elaine and Ken involve the children, and adults, in all the practical activities and help children to be confident and caring of the animals. The accommodation is on the farm and quite spacious and well equipped and warm in winter (we had frost and the pond froze over). Barcoo's Barn is in a beautiful area and there are lovely views across the valley - and Bathurst and other towns are nearby for shops and trips out.
