“Best farm experience ever! Highly recommended”
Reviewed December 14, 2012

We were in Bathurst for only a couple of days and we wanted our little niece to have first hand farm experience. We were unable to book a day tour ahead of time but the owners Farmer Ken and Elaine nevertheless gave us a grand tour with such a very short notice, that is - we were just 6 kilometres away from the farm! The couple were very, very accommodating and we never felt that we had inconvenienced them at all. Such hospitality! Our little one held day-old chicks, fed the chooks, rode on Cody the Shetland pony, patted the lambs, had a tractor ride and played with the dogs, Carly and Ruby. Elaine gave us such a warm welcome and such a wonderful unforgettable experience. If you have kids and are in Bathurst, Barcoos is a lovely place to visit. Your kids will love it.

Words cannot explain what an experience we had at Barcoos. It was just fantastic, our three children 8, and twin 5 year old's are counting down the days till we go back next year. Elaine is such a hard worker putting us all to shame and once we got to know her, we felt like part of the pack. The children enjoyed every part of their day, the horse rides going with Ken in the Tractor and of cause feeding the 15 lambs. The dogs and their crazy cuddles were also a highlight. Thankyou Elaine and Ken for a truly wonderful time and we will see you next year!!

My family (I've got 4 kids between 9 and 2) had a fantastic time at the farm. The hospitality of the owners/hosts was outstanding. It was clearly evident through our stay that Elaine is a very dedicated woman both to her farm and its animals and giving visiting families a wonderful up close, hands on farm experience. She truly loves and cares for all the animals on their farm and Barcoo's Barn is a credit to them both. I would absolutely recommend visiting Barcoo's Barn.

My 12 and 9 yr old kids loved this stop over on our journey. We were welcomed and included in the farm activities, with horse riding, feeding the new lambs, shearing and caring for the lovely clydesdale horses. Elaine was wonderful and very hands on with including the children in her daily activities of feeding the chooks, yarding sheep, looking after the dogs and new lambs. The accommodation was very comfortable, clean and nothing was too much trouble. This stop over on our journey gave us time to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet. Would definately recommend Elaine & Ken's farmstay to anyone with families or just looking for that little bit of peace and quiet.

Our family of four recently stayed at Barcoos Barn Farmstay. Despite the freezing cold weather, we had a wonderful time. Our two daughters couldn't get enough of Lenny and Penny the one week old lambs and Sheldon the super friendly calf. They also fell in love with all of the dogs and the horses. Activities such as the horse sled, the pony cart, horse riding and tractor driving were also a big hit. Elaine and Ken are the most delightful hosts and go out of their way to make sure that everyone has a great time and feels very welcome. We would definitely recommend Barcoos Barn to other families.

Elaine and Ken have created something really special at Barcoo's. They combine the warmth and hospitality of country people with an open and generous approach to sharing their small but busy working farm with their city guests, many of whom come back time and again. What sets it apart from other farmstays is that there are only a couple of families staying at any one time and Elaine and Ken personally supervise all the farm activities for the children. Our three girls aged 11, 9 and 6 did not have a spare moment to get bored! Whether helping Elaine prepare the formula to feed the lambs, leading Cody the Shetland out for a ride or taking to the wheel in the tractor with Ken, our girls got up close and personal with every aspect of farm life. They loved the chickens, calves, goats and Clydesdales as well as the freedom to explore the farm and learn about country life. During the day we went off to explore the sites and environs of Bathurst including a wonderful drive up to Sofala and Hillend which is like taking a trip back in time (the girls were fascinated by the tiny village school in Sofala which still welcomes local families). We visited last October and hope to visit again this year - thank you Elaine and Ken for being such wonderful and welcoming hosts.

We give barccos 5 stars for a enjoyable family farmstay! Elaine and Ken really made our family feel welcome and our kids very welcome too. The play equipment was a big hit and meant we could watch the kids play while we sat and had a cuppa. Our kids (5,3,1.5) enjoyed the chickens, ducks, lambs, goats, horses, pony - a great collection of animals that enjoyed our attention and were good with the little ones. The house dogs and working dogs were just lovely and the tractor ride was a massive hit. My husband really loved riding the clydesdale, I loved the ride on the kart behind the pony.

Other families that stayed had kids ranging in ages from 14 months to 15 and everyone found things they liked to do on the farm. It is close to bathurst so easy access for extra supplies or coffee but when you are there it feels like you are really on holidays and can relax with a glass of wine and watch the kids tire themselves out.

We took our caravan and hooked up to their power outlets, the spaces were large and the amenties area clean. There is a camp kitchen which was a real bonus and provided a good inside space for everyone staying in the camp grounds.

We will be visiting again, and will hopefully bring some of our friends with us for the next trip.
