When we drove into Bathurst, we were taken by how clean it was, and how nice the streets were with their lovely brick houses. A truly lovely place. For V8 motoring devotees, Mount Panorama Bathurst is tar seal Heaven. When you arrive at the track, you just drive. You drive the complete circuit, up through to the famous tight and winding hill area, down to the main straight ending up back at the start line and pit area. This is a public road, and as such it has a 60kph speed limit. It has to be remembered that it is a normal road and as such, you will see letterboxes and driveways reminding you that people live here. You do see some funny sites as we did when we saw at two different times, two pickup trucks with boats on trailers complete with protruding fishing rods driving around the track. The temptation to exceed the speed limit would be easy, but do so at your own peril.
Rydges has a what appears to be a very nice hotel very close to the track, and it looks like the view from all rooms would be spectacular.
We thoroughly enjoyed driving around the track (Twice), and now we have a much better appreciation of what those skilled drivers have to do especially at the top end, to just stay on the track with so many of them racing at any one time and in such close proximity to each other. It was definitely worth the visit, as was the town of Bathurst town itself.
