“Great room”
Reviewed November 17, 2011

Stayed there for Drive Sprint Bathurst. Deluxe Studio room excellent, fully equipped kitchen. Tip, bring your own food. Big bathroom with very good spa bath. Plenty of room for one, OK for two. Restaurant: breakfast is good, dinner ordinary and expensive. Staff helpful

Room Tip: deluxe studio is fine

I travelled to Bathurst for work and had to make an emergency stop and needed somewhere to stay. I was looking for at least a 4 star location as most of the hotels in Bathurst look run down and really old.

This hotel was such a let down. The rooms are basic and cheaply decorated and I stayed in a "Spa Suite". The greatest overpriced night I have spent away from home.

The whole hotel feels cheap and poorly constructed, it has the feel of uni dorm accommodation and paper thin walls and narrow little corridors.

The staff are far from helpful and unfriendly. The large tin shed attached to the side of the hotel is where you park your car.

The rooms were not clean and certainly not to a standard that is supposed to be a premier hotel for Bathurst. The spa had a soap scum ring around the edge from the last time it was used, the bathroom floor tiles looked like they last saw a mop when it was first built as did the shower screen. The overall feel of the hotel was dirty and grimy.

The location, while quiet and overlooks the famous race track, is so far from town that you need a car to go anywhere so prepare some supplies before you stay as the room service was average and delivered almost cold.

I only stayed the one night, checked out the next day and found a great serviced apartment right in town for much less.

having stayed here many times, there must be lots staff changes here, checked into my room it was a studio (so small) changed to larger room, the toilet had pubic hair on it, there was water all over floor staff cleaned it up immediately, went for dinner ordered steak not given steak knife girl dropped it then walked off poor service, was charged over top price for my room on check out what a rip off, country priced like Sydney prices be aware, to top this off i left my phone chargers there and have had 3 phone calls and waited for 2weeks to get my chargers back, totally unprofessional, complain they don't care.

Room Tip: check out your room first.

Ironically, this is the one place in Bathurst you should not stay unless you have a car. Located on the famous rev-head alter of Mount Panorama, Citigate is out of the main area of Bathurst so if you need to do business or eat in town you will have to taxi it. That said, Citigate is right up there with the best places to eat and stay in the district. Most of the rooms front the iconic track and other than the Great Race weekend you can watch push bikes or walkers languidly make their way around in a quiet rural setting. The rooms are clean, comfortable and well equipped but don’t even think of staying here for the ‘Big One’ as rooms triple in price and have all sorts of restrictions and odd rules attached.
The restaurant is very good but can be inconsistent Moo has found. Last time it was a public holiday and so apparently you could not buy drinks at the bar. Another strange rule?. The food is generally very good and it is fun to have drinks outside trackside. The restaurant could be better located as it sits behind a walk way instead of higher up in the complex where it would have a great view. But, as they often heard to say on the mount: can’t win ‘em all.
All up this is a great place to stay and an excellent base for exploring Bathurst which is a pretty, historic town with lots to occupy you for a few days. If you have time, the Abercrombie caves about 45 minutes out of town are a secret gem of the area.

Room Tip: Do not even think about booking for race weekend.

We have previously stayed here and were very happy, all rooms have a sofa bed and kitchen so its great when travelling with kids. We again decided to stay with our children in August, we decided to not pre-book as we were hoping for a last minute deal (forget it there aren't any). Apon arrivial the reception was ok, check-in was completed and I decided to use cash as my credit card was debited twice last time and took too long to be refunded. Upon handing over the money I was informed that I would be charged an extra $25 for the use of the sofa bed! I offered to make the bed myself and they refused and stated I would still be charged! This is poor service as no where on their website indicates this and on check in you are pretty much held to ransom and have to pay. We were refunded the money the next day as a gesture but I may consider staying elsewhere next time. Overall good place to stay, very clean and modern. Gym is tiny.

The hotel is right on the Mt Panorama race track - so nice to go for a moring walk. the hotel restaurant is good and they have a nice little bar. It's only a short trip into the city centre. Bathurst is a really pretty place worth getting to know.

Room Tip: Rooms have a small but well resourced kitchnette.
