Good beach location although drive to better beaches recommended. Amenities excellent & ample showers & washing machines at peak time. Pool crowded at times but enjoyed by small kids. We too knew people with goods stolen & has happened previous years. Didn't see warnings about this but did hear zsecurity catch male - relief felt afterwards. Great kids club & fabulous facilitator - a real selling point for this Big4. Our disappointment was the staff response to our experience in a beach front unit! After 2 weeks camping we upgraded to a unit for our last night hoping for some good sleep before our long drive home. Unfortunately the smoke alarm falsely went off 4 times in night & early morning (10.30pm, 5.55am, 6.17am & 7.27am) - waking us in shock & a daze - there went our well planned sleep (smoke alarm too high to easily turn off). On check out the staff member showed no empathy - instead "we can't predict these things" & took the key. I was surprised at her blase response - not expected from a 5 star big 4. (She had refunded a lady $3 for a faulty dryer but didn't seem to care at all about our experience). It was a dissapointing end to our trip.

On our second night some of our equipment worth around $500 was stolen from our annex. Walking the park talking to and warning other campers we were shocked to speak to many other victims. A family with $1,000 of gear a couple of nights before us, another couple who had their table and chairs stolen 3 nights before us another whose BBQ was stolen. It seems that the local low lifes steal from the park on a regular basis - its easy pickings. The thing that annoyed us most was that at no time did park staff advise anyone of the nightly thefts, there were no notices posted anywhere and in over a week at the park the only "security" we saw was a security car drive by once. This place should verbally warn campers when robberies are occurring nightly. Other campers told us this has been the case for years.
We were regularly kept awake by noisy neighbours until after mid night we NEVER heard or saw any park staff asking people to be quiet.
We are seasoned campers and have not experienced this at other BIG 4 sites.
The promised WI FI simply did not work when I went to the office about it I was told that they had to "re-set the modem" and that the "IT guy"" was in Queensland and finally that it was a free service (ie you have not been charged for it so stop complaining).
The pool is the smallest I have seen at any decent park and smaller than some pools in peoples back yards, it is only suitable for young children and is well overcrowded.
The food shop is a crusty old caravan in the corner of the park.
We will never go there again and will warn all we know of the perils of this place and the indifference of the staff exposing families to theft and noise abuse.
How on earth did this place get a 5 star rating????
The BIG 4 should look after its brand and contact the police to get some idea of the huge number of thefts and the woeful management of this place in the interests of the protecting its brand and its customers.

Beachresort123, Manager at BIG4 Batemans Bay Beach Resort, responded to this reviewResponded January 18, 2012

Thank you for taking the time to provide your review of the Resort, Its frustrating managing and maintaining the Resort to a usually high standard then to have it knocked down with some as you state "local lowlifes", It leaves a bad taste in everybodies mouth when a theft takes place.
With regards to informing our guests of these kind of issues - every guest receives a welcome pack on check in - this pack includes local information, a Resort map, a NSW Police issued notice advising guests "If it can be seen, you can lose it" this gives guests dot points to avoid belongings from being stolen. we have similar posters in most public buildings. As managers we engage the local security company to drive through the Resort several times a night, their contact number is also on the receipts issued on check in, if their is any problems during the night. From Boxing day we also have a member of our team patrolling the Resort for excessive noise and ensuring no undesirables come on to the Resort, this patrol commences at 10pm with myself and mentioned team member walking a lap of the Resort checking for excess noise, etc for the first hour then the team member continues until 3-4am. Other than an esky containing drinks and a barbecue which went missing just after Christmas the only other thefts that was reported was the one you mention with the table and chairs, on another occasion 2 males were chased through the Resort by our staff member and security which resulted in one male being caught and charged with trespass, since then no other theft as been reported (touch wood). Suprisingly many campers who have recently left have commented how quiet it has been during the night this year. Being a Beachfront Resort we are unfortunately open to the elements, thus fencing off the beach would be detrimental to our openness.
After spending a fortune on upgrading our Free wifi system prior to the school holidays in mid December, it was working perfectly then murphy's law just as we get into the busiest time of the year the server at the company we use for the wifi went down and their technician was on leave and this could not be fixed for several days, then after this issue was fixed a Telstra line went down so unfortunately these issues were out of our control.
This is the first time our Swimming Pool (pictured in photos on tripadvisor) as been called small, this is a good size pool for a park that has total beach frontage that is great for swimming, kayaking, fishing.
The crusty old caravan is excactly what we intended for our takeaway outlet hence the name "The Snak Shak" which provides freshly cooked to order breakfasts, burgers, also milkshakes and soft serve icecream, not to mention the fresh barista coffee. This is a new addition that after feedback from guests having to walk 20 minutes or jump into the car to grab a coffee or a bite to eat, and with the Resort being a caravan park The Snak Shak does not stand out too much!

Again I am sorry about your belongings being stolen, but I can assure you we have done and are doing as much as we can to prevent this from happening.
Thank You
Danny Whitter

Great spot very close to beach! Wireless did not work and the pool was very busy. Overall a great family spot that can get quite crowded.

We stayed here for 2 nights in May 2010 mid week in a 2 story cabin - 2 bedroom. Cost was $150 per night so $300 total. We had a 3 and <1 year old with us. The cabin was really nice, very modern and comfortable. Full cooking facilities and a personal bbq on deck.
It rained constantly so didnt get to enjoy batemans bay to its full potential. There was a jumping pillow which my son enjoyed.
Hope to return one day.

We visited Batemans Bay for a weekend golf tournament during August 2011.As a business traveller used to 5 star accommodation I was struggling to find anything in Batemans Bay that: a) was not a motel and b) was of a reasonable standard at a reasonable price. I'm very pleased to report that Big 4 was a lucky find. We stayed in one of the sea front cabins and had a fantastic weekend. The cabins are basic but very comfortable, light and airy. Thank you to Big 4 and their staff for a wonderful break.

Also recommend the dining room at Catalina Country club (within walking distance of Big 4). Catalina's has everything from wood fired pizza to grilled fish. We ate there twice and it was great. Get in early as its very popular.

Room Tip: Try the cabins. We stayed in Kingfisher.

Noise curfews seem to be ignored and staff are largely absent within outdoor area of park. Promised wireless Internet did not eventuate with excuse been that external server down - but really for 3 days? Seems that this a promise they struggle to keep and a point of frustration within a number of reviews - suffice to say they need to address this or ditch the whole notion.

Finally, while the park was not full they insisted on putting us (we were in a powered tent site) bunched up with caravans and other tents while there was a lot more space - even in the same row. A bit more space would have made the experience much more pleasant.
