Description: Housed in the distinctive Art Deco ‘Waterside Workers Union Hall’ The Town House (formally The Bay House) is a ‘must do’ on your coastal itinerary. Reminiscent of a European café The Town House is the ‘go to’ place whatever you’re dining needs, whether it be a meal at anytime during the day or evening, a coffee and croissant in the morning, an afternoon wine or cocktail or a late evening drink and dessert. This is the place where you will find the locals sipping espresso at the bar on a Saturday morning reading the paper while others dine in the restaurant and enjoy the a la carte menu on offer. Located towards the port end of town near the picturesque fishing wharf on the corner of Palmerston and Cobden Streets, The Town House’ cosy interior is in keeping with its art deco history featuring original wooden floors, be-spoke wallpaper and wood paneled walls throughout with a deco sunburst theme behind the bar, the freestanding fireplace and in the original art deco glass and rimu doors that lead to the north facing terrace. The dining room is cosy despite its open design and high ceilings. The room warms up as it fills up with diners and comes alive with the enjoyable buzz of dinner conversations and as the warm weather comes to an end a spot by the fireplace is desirable and will see you settle in for a very comfortable dining experience. The Terrace has seating for 40 diners and on a sunny day is the best spot in town for alfresco wining and dining.

We had this restaurant recommended to us by the young girl in the information centre. We were only in Westport for 1 night so wanted to get the best we could. We were not disappointed! The bar staff / waitresses were great. The food was superb! I liked the confidence in the waitress to tell customers how they will cook the meat for it to be at its best. I had venison and it was very rare but absolutely gorgeous. My husband had steak and his was also perfectly cooked and tasty. The steak had a Mediterranean flavour and the venison had parsnip mash ,walnuts, feta and roasted grapes a very unusual but extremely tasty combination! Would recommend this restaurant and would definitely go back. Thanks to the wonderful staff!

The food is outstanding. Good service, a nice deck outside to take advantage of sunny West Coast weather.

This place is a must for any west coast road trip, and a perfect destination or finale for anyone doing the coast road from greymouth. The town house has the style and sophistication of a city fine dining restaurant or high end cafe, but with an easy and comfortable atmosphere many sydney or auckland establishments would be hard pressed to match.

The food is what really made this place stand out to me though - being an exciting departure from the 'gourm-average' food were all so bored of these days - whoever designed the menu certainly knows how to breathe new life into old favourites as well as taking the diner on exotic sensual adventures to all corners of the globe - the venison with parsnip, and walnuts, grapes and feta was beautifully fitting for a mild spring evening, and I am currently struggling to find anywhere that matches their japanese 'gyoza' dumplings back here in sydney...

p.s. pop in for a coffee in the morning too, Gina made me the best latte of my entire NZ trip hands down!

The menu in this attractive art deco building was extensive and a good selection of wines. For the jaded traveller looking for something to freshen the palatte in a small NZ country town, this is it. Good service without being intrusive and excellent value for money.

The free range pork belly was cooked to perfection and the balance of flavors of the dish was superb.
An unexpected culinary treat in Westport (wish we could come here every week!
