We wanted to stay north of Westport to explore the beautiful remote areas around Karamea and Granity and could not have chosen a better location. For people who love the outdoors this is a wonderful place. Gay is a mine of information about the area and helped us plan our time really well. We not only explored the natural beauties of Oparama and Karamea but also the deserted mining towns of Denniston and Millerton. After the first day's tramping north of Karamea she had the hot tub which is situated beside the wonderful west coast beach ready and waiting.
There is a cheap eat at the local hotel, we had a roast dinner for $15 one night , and then the next Gay sent us to Karamea to the marvellous Riverstone restaurant.
Gay's breakfasts are good with fresh fruit, cereals, real coffee and cooked options - and we can never say no to whitebait fritters!

This was a stopover on our journey down the west coast and as such it was a mistake. Although the property is comfortable and Gay is a good host the accomodation is isolated, being about 25 minutes drive from Westport. The only place to eat is a downmarket restaurant about 5 minutes walk away. The accomodation itself, comprising the bedroom and guest lounge is nothing more than average

Constructive feedback is always helpful - however, it does need to be something we can do something about - and, factual.

We are 20 minutes from Westport (a town of 6,000) - and we state this right up front on our website. Possibly this guest did not notice this crucial information. If he had, he would not have been surprised which he obviously was.

Guests looking for a one night stay providing a quick and functional stopover to break the journey are catered for by the many motels and accommodation houses in Westport.

However, I know that most of our one night stay guests have loved their stopovers here because of the quiet, quaint and relaxed environment we provide with beach, river, country village, and forest walkway at our doorstep. Judging from our guest book comments, the majority feel the short drive north is well worth it.

I cannot fathom why this guest calls us 'isolated'. Our parking area feeds directly off the state highway - we are in the middle of three seaside villages wtih a population of close to 800.

In addition there were more dinner options than he describes - there are three local hotels closeby, two cafes, and a takeaway. Also, we offer two dinner options if guests wish to book these - a light dinner for $25, and a full gourmet dinner for $55. These guests could have taken advantage of this....again, possibly they didn't read the information provided...a pity, because we really love to make our guests happy.

This B&B is a diamond amongst the B&B's. The location is fantastic, across the road from the beach. The host, Gay is friendly and helpful and the breakfasts are superb.
The rooms are private and with excellent facilities. This is without doubt the best B&B my husband and I have ever stayed at.

I would highly recommend The Charming Creek B & B to anyone looking for accommodation in the Westport area. We have just returned from a two night stay and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
It only took 20 mins to drive here (easy straight road) from Westport. The fire was roaring, and Gay was very welcoming on our arrival. Gay was invaluable in helping us decide what we could feasibly fit in, as we only had a short time, and there is so much to see! She fitted in with our plans to start the day early, and prepared a lovely breakfast, with lots of homemade and organic ingredients. On our second day, had a truly wonderful soak in the natural hot tub, which is fired by driftwood and no chemicals in the water (filled specially each time for guests). Situated right on the sand where the waves break, sipping a cold glass of Savignon Blanc added up to a very special experience! Frieda and Zena (Very Important Pets) were also a pleasure. The beds were very comfy, with electric blankets, the shower was great, and the shared guest lounge works very well. After our soak, popped down to the local pub (walking distance) and had divine fish 'n chips. A gem of a place to stay!

We visited the Charming Creek Bed and Breakfast, run by Gay Sweeney not long after it opened early 2007. The setting is stunning, just across the road from a beautiful beach. The B&B is fabulous, purpose built, very comfortable and really well thought out. Gay cooks an amazing breakfast, with gourmet sausages made by a local (ish) butcher. She is a fountain of information on the history of the region, has some great ideas on day trips and wonderful walks. We highly recommend a visit to Ngakawau.
