We wanted to stay north of Westport to explore the beautiful remote areas around Karamea and Granity and could not have chosen a better location. For people who love the outdoors this is a wonderful place. Gay is a mine of information about the area and helped us plan our time really well. We not only explored the natural beauties of Oparama and Karamea but also the deserted mining towns of Denniston and Millerton. After the first day's tramping north of Karamea she had the hot tub which is situated beside the wonderful west coast beach ready and waiting.
There is a cheap eat at the local hotel, we had a roast dinner for $15 one night , and then the next Gay sent us to Karamea to the marvellous Riverstone restaurant.
Gay's breakfasts are good with fresh fruit, cereals, real coffee and cooked options - and we can never say no to whitebait fritters!
