“can't believe this place is free”
Reviewed December 20, 2013

just take a short walk from the parking and one get to see a colony of seals right in your face. no need to pay money for zoos and wildlife centers. this is real nature. great job to DOC for building the viewing platforms. the seals are there almost all the time.

“Good view”
Reviewed December 19, 2013

Firstly this review is a bit biased, as I am from Dunedin NZ, which has a few fur seal colonies around so the novelty of fur seals is reduced for myself. The thing I like about this place is that there is a viewing platform above the seal colony which allows us to view the seals without disturbing them.
Cape Foulwind is about 30 mins away from Westport and the seal colony is located in a place called Tauranga Bay.

There are also some nice views in the area so if you are visiting from overseas I think this is worth a visit.

“Great Views”
Reviewed December 6, 2013

Easy walk along laid track for great views of beaches and rocks as well as seals. The seals are in decline which is concerning, but we saw 2 or 3 pups with the adults.
