Check in was late for an hour, the rooms don't have A/C and the sun is burning into the room. The only way to cool it down is to open the door to the hallway. Don't bother to try the restaurant, the food is terrible. The pool area needs a good cleaning, the chairs are dirty and you have to use the towels from your room, and you have only 2.
All in all I wouldn't go back there and the price we pay for the room is much too high for the standard.

Overall the hotel is ok and its not a hotel you should avoid at all costs. However, it is pretty dated and could do with a bit of an upgrade - it has some nice retro carpets in places!

It's also not particularly cheap and for the price I would expect more. I would imagine that there are better options available in te anau.

We stayed here several times and this was a return visit. The rooms are clean but quite basic. Lakeview rooms have a small landing and chairs on which one can enjoy gorgeous views of the Kepler Mountains opposite the lake.

I have to agree that the bathrooms have overly bright lighting.

Free WiFi is nice to have but it was a little odd to see lots of people congregating in the bar area on their laptops or tablets late into the evening looking into their screens but not at one another. Dusk on a fine day is beautiful from this locale as are walks on the lakefront, a stone's throw away.

Service was average. Beware of times when large tour groups check in because these mop up all the attention of the front-desk staff.

The breakfast buffet is a good spread.

We had a ground floor room, lake facing, and it was extremely good. Dinners and breakfasts were very nice, although the breakfast staff cooking eggs need a bit more training. The young waiting staff were efficient and friendly. Can recommend this hotel.

now i dont know if it was because we were booked for 4 nights when most of the customers (tour buses) seem to stay only one night or if its because we arrived 1hr before checkin or if its because when we arrived they were checking out 2 bus loads of people but i do know we booked a double room and got a private villa - yes, a villa and i want to move in forever!

we had villa 801 which is directly outside the pool and only 60secs walk to the main lobby. its new and stylish and the bath tub - double sized jet spa bath no less, i told hubby i must have one for home

the villa has a large seperate living room with two couches, flat screen tv and gas wood fireplace, the kitchen area has a dining table and 4 chairs, the bed was super comfy (another flat screen tv) iwith table and wardrobe and the bathroom was new and modern and did i mention the double sized jet spa bath

the pool area can get busy late afternoon but i didnt find it (or the kids) annoying and there is a nearby laundry room where $2 will let you do a load of laundry

cons:
i was pretty disgusted with the $85pp Christmas day buffet price - i would have had a nicer meal at the pub. the food was very very average and no pork crackling, the el cheap pork roll roast without crackling isnt good enough at these prices

no free wifi in your room. it is available in the lobby though and the bar is comfy with lots of chairs

pro:
checking was super easy and the staff friendly.
the room was fabulous!
the breakfast buffet is contenitial ($10 by memory), cooked ($22) or both ($27). we had the cooked each day (a good start to the day) and it was yummy. eggs, bacon, sausages, mushrooms, hash browns, tomato, beans etc plus they do special egg orders (poached is hubbys fav)
they have a onsite massause that my husband gives a 8.5 out of 10 for a very good sports deep tissue massage
we had one dinner at the hotel restaurant using the al la carte menu and the food was far better than the horrid Christmas buffet - hubby got a huge rib eye steak and i had the pork, much much nicer food
hotel is close to restaurants, stores and visitor centres by foot

overall a great stay and i would love to stay there again - if i get a villa that is :)

We stayed one night at the Lake View room. The room had great views of the Lake it's surrounding mountains and everyone gets free WiFi access but that's about it. When we arrived, the hotel had checked another guest into our room (the only thing in common with both guests were a similar first name). The next room we were offered, the bathroom lights were out of order. Thankfully the 3rd room did not have any of the other hassles ... or so we thought. The rooms although big felt dated and the bathroom had glaring white lighting installed. The hair dryer was not where they said it would be and a call to the reception responded with "Did you not read check-in policy that you have to request for a hair dryer in advance?" We must note that the hotel was kind enough to give us free complementary buffet breakfast to make up for the inconvenience though.

Room Tip: Try to get a room located at the middle on the ground floor for best experience.

My wife and myself spent two nights over three days here - first in a Garden view room which was fine - clean, two queen beds etc. The second time that week was in a villa - queen bed, two TV's, living room etc.

On the plus sides both times the rooms were very clean although the villa bathroom was a little dated (and the reflective floor in the shower was a little odd). There is free wireless in the lobby by reception and it's walking distance to many places to eat, the tourist office, supermarket etc.

The not so plus things were the fact that the wireless wasn't available in your room and they turn it off in reception at 10:45pm which isn't ideal if you arrive late as we did the first night. Also the staff attitudes were variable - the morning after our first stay and the evening and morning of the second stay the staff were helpful and friendly but the woman on duty the first evening was in a bad mood, very curt in her answers to all queries and just in general shouldn't be working in hospitality - especially front desk if she is like that all the time.

We didn't eat there so can't comment on the food.
