We were really surprised to find this gem of a restaurant - it was recommended by a local. The building has a lot of character and the staff were welcoming and helpful. We were lucky to get a table as it was pretty booked out. Food is traditional British / NZ. Had the bread and dips to start - dips are homemade and fantastic. Egg washed blue cod and pork belly followed. altogether the best evening meal we have had in NZ.

Good food. Good service. Portion of the meals are good. Since the restarant is open both at the front as the back it is draughty and so it can be chilly. Most wines were available by glass, but no dessert or sweet wines were available by glass.

Booked in advance as this restaurant does get busy, nice ambience with welcoming and helpful staff. Started with the clearly home made French onion soup served with warm whole meal sourdough and Parmesan and the special of the day 6 pan fried scallops with chilli-both excellent. Main courses of fish of the day (blue cod) served with buttered carrots, roasted Kumara, asparagus and an excellent citrus aioli. My main course of slow cooked belly pork served with a watercress, mascarpone and potato crush, scallops mango chilli salsa was perfect. Dessert was the excellent Kapiti blue cheese served with manuka honey, home made flat breads and walnuts all washed down with an excellent bottle of local Sauvignon Blanc. Meal was so good that we booked there end then to go later in the week.

This has to be one of the best places we visited. Fantastic atmosphere, friendly staff, delicious food and a great find!
If you would like a lovely meal or to just kick back with a drink this is the place to do it.
We went there twice in two days and would have gone back again if we had stayed in the area longer.
It is easy to walk passed as it is just off the main road and looks a little small. But make sure that you head in there.
I would suggest booking for dinner as it is popular (with good reason!).
I can't recommend highly enough!
