The coffee was the only things that saved the day. The bacon was round slices of pressed ?bacon, the tomatoes were unripe, mushrooms tasted as if they were out of a tin and all this for $18. How hard is it to produce good basic brunch? There are too many choices on the menu, they would be better to have a smaller selection and do it well. The place is cluttered with stuff. The staff were polite and doing their best.

The 'Olive Tree' is a cafe style bistro in the centre of Te Anau. Nothing fancy, simple decor, plenty of choice & very friendly service.

There is a lot of deer farming in this area so it was good to try the venison.
We had wild venison cooked with a plum sauce (sweet & sour style) with chips & salad ($32). Meat was tasty, cooked pink as requested, sauce delicious & chips crispy. (Wish restauarnts in the UK could cook chips consistently crispy as in NZ.)
The pudding of ice cream & chocolate sauce also hit the spot.

Pleasant relaxing place to eat.

We loved this little cafe ... the staff were friendly and the food was good. On top of that free wi-fi and if you need gluten-free, they have it.

Just what the Doctor ordered for a hearty meal before setting off on a tramp (hike)... and another great breakfast the next morning. Evenings sees them offering table service, and mornings you order from the counter. Food was all lovely and fresh, and the staff were down to earth, friendly folk. Excellent value too. We didn't use the outdoor area, but it looks great for those long summer evenings.
