Absolute the best BnB we had ever. Very nice and personal rooms. Nicely equiped and very clean. Keiko and Kevin are very nice folks and are konwledable and helpful on any tourist information you may need. Actually we strongly recommend to stay here, rather than in Manapouri. There is more to do in this area anyway.
What makes this place so special is the traditional Japanese Kitchen you may ask at breakfast for. If you like sushi than don't miss that one out. For a short time you will be in Japan. Kevin and Keiko are fun people to be with also. Kevin is a resourcefull of funny stories out of tourism and the likes. We planned only one night, but had to stay longer. Keiko also makes beautiful traditional Japanese drawings.

Room Tip: All the rooms are nice. The front cottage even has a bathroom for the less capable.

My wife and I stayed at Keiko's Cottages for 3 days February 2013. We are both 30+ years old.

The Rooms---Very basic
No screen in bathroom window, no divider b/t shower and toilet, our room was a little chilly at night.

The Location---Great
5 minute walk to Te Anau center, lake and various restaurants

The Hosts---Friendly and helpful
Kevin gave us great sightseeing and adventure tour advice and booked several day trips for us on short notice for reasonable price.

Breakfast: Very simple and a little overpriced.
They serve a very basic breakfast for an additional fee. It's very convenient but if you have time I suggest going to local restaurant for breakfast.

These guests stayed with us for 3 nights in mid February and were so concerned about the quality of our small B&B that they have just wrote their review some seven and a half months later!
Basic room--- Sakura Cottage. You cross an arched bridge spanning a fish pond with 2 waterfalls to reach the cottage veranda. The cottage has a king size bed, a small bedside dresser with an alarm clock and fresh flowers from Keiko's garden, a larger dresser with a mirror, seat and hair drier, a TV, a table and 2 chairs, and a good basic kitchen with a fridge, microwave etc.
The bathroom--- We don't need window screens in Te Anau, there are no nighttime insects(none in the daytime either)
The bathroom has been designed to accommodate wheelchair guests and a divider would make it difficult to maneuver a chair there.
Like all our cottages and bathrooms there is plenty of heating, most guests make full use of the heaters and we thank this reviewer for helping to keep our very large electricity bill down but it's not necessary really, we would rather you kept warm.
Location--- Thanks for that and as an extra plus Keiko's gardens are the most beautiful in Te Anau.
Hosts-- Thanks mate! Luv ya too.
Breakfasts---After a couple of seasons, (we are on our 13th now) we've settled on what most people want, 3 types of cereal, fruit, homemade yogurt, toasted homemade bread and eggs on toast along with juice, milk, tea, coffee, cheese, jams-some homemade and during Autumn freshly picked wild mushrooms - you can eat as much as you like, last season we charged $13 per adult which we considered very good value.
For an extra $5 we added bacon, hash browns and tomatoes.
Our guests were charged $135/night for their cottage, a real bargain during the busiest time of the season.

We stayed for three nights at Keiko's in March on our five week trip to New Zealand and Eastern Australia. Our accommodation was in the Guest Room which is part of the main house rather than the three separate cottages, but has a separate entrance from the outside and an ensuite bathroom. The room was extremely clean and comfortable and breakfast of cereal, fruit, yogurt and breads along with cooked choices of eggs, bacon etc a great start off to the day. It is only a five to seven minute walk to town for dinner each evening. Te Anau is an ideal location as a central point for all things Fiordland and at least two hours closer to Milford Sound than Queenstown. Keiko has created spectacular gardens and ponds on the property (ask to see the before and after pictures). Kevin is very knowledgable on the whole area, and we booked our Doubtful Sound cruise on his recommendation and he made all of the arrangements for us after email correspondence from Canada. His advice for hiking on our day trip to Milford Sound was also great. Typical of many B & B's, our hosts were very friendly, interesting and talented people with such a variety of life experiences. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.

Keiko and Kevin have cottages and a room in the main house as options. We stayed in a cottage that had a comfortable bed, shower, and kitchen area. We chose the continental breakfast that was superb. Kevin books local tours including Doubtful and Milford sound trips as well as the glowworm caves. He is a good negotiator to get you the best deal possible. All in all one of the best places we have stayed. John and Carolyn Falmouth, ME USA

We stayed for two nights in Te Anau (should have made it four) at Keiko's B&B. The self-contained cottage we stayed in was spacious, quiet, had very good facilities, and looked out onto its own most attractive, private little garden. Kevin was very helpful, organising different tours in the area, and advising us on excellent walks/hikes to take. We regret we were unable to participate in one of Keiko's wonderful Japanese breakfasts. Neither did we have time to enjoy a leisurely "Kiwi" breakfast, which I'm sure would have been very good. The cottage didn't have a view of Lake Te Anau, but was nevertheless only a short walk into town. Te Anau is not as sophisticated or touristic as Queenstown, but is a much more convenient (and peaceful) base for visiting Milford and Doubtful Sounds.

Keiko's Cottages was a delightful accommodation! Her gardens are absolutely breathtaking--gorgeous roses, hydrangeas, and numerous other blossoms are just stunning. We enjoyed Keiko's wonderful breakfasts along with Kevin's tips and ideas for the area. Sitting around their family style breakfast table made for a wonderful start to each day. Our stay at Keiko's and the trip into Milford Sound was a true highlight of our 3 week trip to Australia/NZ!
