“Great place to stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 25, 2012

We stayed three nights here. Rennie, the owner, was extremely helpful in advising us on the weather forecast change and securing last minute reservations on the 06:30 Doubtful Sound cruise the next day. He was right on the mark. Perfect weather and incredible views. He also told us to go to the cinema and see "Shadowland", a 30 minute video of Fiordland. Don't miss it. We bought the video and have watched it at least 5 times since we returned home.

As far as accommodations, they were great. Very clean and quiet. Can't be beat at the price point. Sure you can stay on the lakefront and possibly have a lake view, but you will pay a lot more. Within short walking distance to the DOC, Lake Ti Anau and downtown Ti Anau. If you want to get food and eat in for breakfast, there is a Pak & Save in Town. Kepler's Restaurant (also a Rennie recommendation) in town served phenomenal dinners (lamb and venison)

Room Tip: Probably all the rooms are good, because the Motel is in a very quiet residential area. If you want...

My wife and I, a couple in our 60s, booked a 4 night stay in February 2012. Our room was clean and comfortable but was as spacious as the other motels that we had stayed in on our holiday. However, the owners, Mary and Rennie and their staff were all very friendly and helpful, something that we always value when on holiday. In addition, this was the one place on our holiday in New Zealand where we found true free wi-fi.

Good motel for stopover to visit Milford Sound. Quiet, clean, minimal kitchen. Good location. Owner stays at site but no service after 7pm.

Room Tip: A good transit stopover. Owner switches telephone to fax so no phone contact after 7pm.

We stayed there 1 night. It is a typical small motel. All the rooms are on the ground floor, you can park your car just outside your room. It's close to the lake and the main street with the restaurants and cafes.
Room is nice and clean. Clean bathroom. Comfortable bed, working and sufficient heating. There is enough space to keep your bags with you, fridge and kitchen equipment included in the room.
Service very nice. The owner was very helpful.
Overall I can recommend that place however it's expensive comparing to other places in NZ.

We stayed here two separate nights as this motel had an extra bed in the room which we used to lay out all our stuff to get ready for the Milford track hike, plus it seemed good value for money as it wasn't too expensive. The hosts were very friendly and helpful, and let us leave our car (and even looked after our butter) while we were on the hike. The rooms are comfortable with modern flat screen TV and separate loung chairs, however I doubt you would cook in the room since there is no hotplate, only a microwave. The motel is one street back from the lake, but a very quick walk to the DOC visitor centre and not far from the town centre.

It being winter time, weather was cold but the motel rooms were warm and comfortable. Facilities were good and would happily stay here again.
