“Relaxed”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 4, 2009

Our stay at Dunluce was relaxed & friendly, the hosts were charming & helpful.
There are lovely views of the lake from the spacious & well equiped rooms.
There's wine for guests & tea & coffee making facilities with delicious homemade cookies or muffins.
Breakfast was delicious.
Overall an excellent place to stay to visit all the area.
I would also recommend staying in the area to visit Milford sound rather than in Queenstown as the journey is far storter from Te Anau.

This was the perfect start to our vacation. Wendy greeted us at the door. We had the deluxe room with the tub - it was beautifully decorated and the sheets were luxurious. Wendy should be a chef. We had three choices for breakfast and wish we had a third morning to try all three - beautiful stewed rhubarb one morning with perfectly cooked eggs and homemade muffins. Wendy even gave us some of her homemade muffins to take to Milford Sound. No other lodging matched the quality of the breakfasts at Dunluce. Tea, coffee and wine (and not just the usual ordinary varieties) were always available as well as delicious cookies. We just wish Wendy would serve dinner too since Te Anau does not offer the best restaurant scene. You will not be disappointed by your stay at Dunluce but you will be spoiled by the level of the accomodation, thr quality of the food and the friendliness of Wendy and Roger.

I recently stay at Dunluce B&B with my husband for 3 nights while touring the Fiordland. I must say that my expectations were exceeded on every level (and I am an innkeeper, myself, with particularly high standards). The newly constructed, purpose built house has a modest approach but inside is every amenity from the complementary afternoon cookies/fruit/wine to the wonderful lavender bath soaps and heated bath floors. We stayed in the room with the spa tub which was great after a day of tramping. The style is modern and ULTRA clean; the views are amazing; and Wendy and Roger couldn't be more friendly and helpful with area trails/Sound cruise reservations and restaurants recommendations. Wendy's breakfast table is a picture to behold and equally as delicious. I highly recommend this B&B to anyone traveling to the Fiordlands.

My husband and I absolutely loved our stay at the Dunluce B&B. We stayed in Room 3 for two nights at the beginning of our 2 week honeymoon around the South Island. The room was immaculate and the bathroom was wonderful, with the added touch of heated floors (which we really appreciated since September turned out to be pretty cold in Te Anau)! The view out of the large sliding glass doors was of Lake Te Anau and beautiful mountains… with a field of sheep right across the street.

Wendy is a wonderful hostess. She makes delicious breakfasts and was extremely helpful with suggestions about our activities in the Te Anau area. She even gave us some of the leftover goodies to take with us on our journey. Wendy was also very flexible when our flight was delayed so long that we had to change our booking to a night later, not only was Wendy quick to make the new arrangements for us, but she also called our guided tour for Milford Sound to rebook that for us as well.

I highly recommend this little B&B as a base to explore the Fiordlands!

Dunluce is a great B&B place to stay if you're intending to use Te Anau as a base to do Milford Sound and Doubtful Sound. The property is on a side street away from the main highway - so no annoying road noise from passing traffic. We stayed there for 3 nights in one of the rooms - all of which were spacious enough and had great views of the lake. Wendy was a wonderful hostess and starting the day with the breakfast she provided was a treat. She also made muffins for her guests to take with them. Coming back to the property was also a treat as there would always be fruit and cookies waiting for us in the guest lounge. Pity about the construction site that was just a stone's throw away though. Overall two thumbs up!!

  • Liked — The serenity and Wendy's Muffins!!
  • Disliked — View obstructed by the construction site nearby (but not that it was a real issue)

Large bungalow with views straight over the lake and almost complete surround horizon of mountains situated on edge of Te Anau - you do need a car to get into restaurants and shops which are about a mile away. Rooms and facilities top class and both hosts (Wendy & Roger) extremely friendly and helpful. Breakfasts are super and also adaptable in time if, for example, you want to get to Milford Sound early which is about 2 hours drive away (but what scenery on the way!). This is the ideal location as a base for Fjordland and highly recommendable.
