My wife and I spent a night at the Te Anau Lodge on our way back to Queenstown from Milford Sound. The hosts were great, and the service was exceptional. The property was right near town on the lake, with a beautiful view of the lake and surrounding mountains. Upon check in, we found we had the whole house to ourselves, and we were given a great bottle of Pinot Noir to enjoy before heading out to the Redcliff Cafe for dinner.

We wish we had spent more time at the Lodge and in Te Anau, as we found it to be a lovely town. We plan on coming back Te Anau with our kids, and we will be staying at the Lodge!

We spent 16 nights across NZ (both islands) in mostly B&Bs and a few hotels. Te Anua Lodge is a boutique B&B in a relocated former convent and is very close to the town. Our host Adam, extremely helpful guy and super friendly; he upgraded us to the Cathedral room which had a Jacuzzi and charming views of lake Te Anua and nearby mountains. Adam gave us the town orientation and recommended restaurants for dinner. A cute well-behaved pet dog is also around the property! The breakfast area ie the Chapel room, lounge and every room is individually decorated. Complimentary wines and cakes in the lounge and library make the stay very comfortable and enjoyable, no concept of mini-bar here, which was a welcome touch! Adam had been a pilot in his past experience, and can help advise and arrange scenic flights. He told us, in summers, helicopters even pickup/dropoff from the Lodge’s lawns, which would be pretty awesome!

We stayed in the Cathedral room and loved the view, the lounge is great too for tea and cake and relaxing and we also used the giant chess board outside which is great fun! (Even if we are very bad at chess!). Adam was in charge when we we there - what a nice guy - great to chat to over breakfast and couldn't do enough to help us. We also loved wandering round the grounds, had a great visit to Milford Sound with Jucy tours and an excellent pub meal in The Fat Duck. We are really missing New Zealand and its friendly people!

Unique and beautiful guest house. Historic, but with all the modern amenities and comfort you need. George is a charming and knowledgeable host. Very helpful guiding us to local restaurants and sights. Even helped us track down obscure Lord of the Rings sites for our teenager and quite the gentleman to the grandmother on our trip. Food was delicious and plentiful at breakfast and tea time cake was much appreciated. We enjoyed relaxing and reading in the guest lounge immensely. Wish we had a living room like this one!

We stayed here in April. It was brilliant, and I echo the other comments and reviews. The guest lounge was comfortable and the complimentary cake, tea/coffee and wine a real treat. Having breakfast in the converted chapel was also special. Great place to stay. George was also one of the best hosts and one of the nicest people we met on our tour round NZ. I forgot to write in the guestbook so this review is by way of apology, I would have liked to have written all this in the book. Great stay - we loved it

Absolutely perfect stay. Beautiful and interesting accommodation. Perfectly clean. The host, George, went out of his way to make our stay as enjoyable and comfortable as possible. He was very knowledgeable about local restaurants and attractions. There were fresh muffins, tea, wine, beer and he even laid on breakfast before sun-rise for our early departure.
Ideally situated between milford sound and queenstown. We wish we could have stayed longer.

I really wanted to stay at the Te Anau Lodge so when all I could book for the dates I wanted was the smallest room, I did. When we arrived another guest had a late cancellation so our host upgraded us to a larger room. What a treat!. We had a large corner room with great views of the lake and mountains. We loved having breakfast in the former chapel and spending time in the Library / Lounge. This is a special property and the Host does a wonderful job ensuring that the guests have the best experience.

Room Tip: Plan to give yourself some downtime in the Lodge - enjoy some time reading and relaxing in the Libra...
