Stayed here one night before jetting off to Milford Sound the next morning. Location is well situated near town centre. Room was large, neat and tidy. Extremely pleased with complimentary chocolates, card and other foods to consume for breakfast. The only draw back was the mattresses and pillows that were uncomfortable but nevertheless it was complimented by the service and friendly attitude by Nigel! Thank you Nigel for making us feel very welcome. We look forward to returning one day. Perhaps when the weather is a lot better!

Enjoyed our short stay on the way to Milford. Very friendly and helpful hosts, loved the complimentary box of chocolates and hand written card!! Bathroom recently renovated, did run out of hot water after 2 showers but all good. Comfortable bed, decent sized kitchenette. Everything we needed! Would stay again.

We stayed 2 nights in an upstairs, 2 bedroom Queen Suite. Mary greeted us warmly and gave us an early check-in. A welcome gift of chocolates was in our spacious, clean suite. Explorer Hotel is an older accommodation but Mary and Nigel are gradually updating it. The grounds are beautiful and it's a short walk to the town center and restaurants.

The layout/design of the rooms did not work for us. The 2nd 'inside' bedroom did not have any windows for air, only a skylight. It was too hot to use! Perhaps fans could have been provided. We were also close to our neighbors and could hear conversations in the kitchen beside us and smell cigarette smoke below us.

Thanks for your recent stay and we apologise that you had noise disturbance from the neighbours which is not an issue we normally hear of. We do have a non smoking policy for inside of the whole building but I am assuming there may have been cigarette smell from one of the outside balconies below you. I hope that overall you still had a great experience in Te Anau and thank you for letting us know of your experience.

Kind regards

Spent two nights here. Our room was very clean and comfortable and extremely quiet at night. It is a family run motel and the staff could not be more helpful or friendly. We didn’t have much of a view but did have an outside area to sit in and had everything in the studio we needed. The motel is well located within 5 mins of the lake and the town. Although we didn’t specifically request it,our room would have been perfectly suitable for a wheelchair user. Lovely walks by the lake Would very much recommend if staying in Te Anau.

.
The accommodation is in a very quiet area, and is in easy walking distance to the town centre and Lake Te Anau. The grounds and the rooms are all very well maintained. The room was very comfortable and spacious. A lovely touch upon arrival was a welcome card and a box of chocolates.

Room tip: If you have very heavy luggage maybe consider a downstairs room.
