I went on a one day hike guided by Mary through the bush and it was one of the best one-day treks I've ever done. I do a lot of walking but it's really unusual to be able to get off the path and just head out into the wilderness, knowing that you won't come across another soul and probably not many people have been that way before. The trek we did was absolutely stunning - amazing views all around - and took us across varied terrain. And Mary was fantastic, imparting knowledge about navigation as we went, and providing encouragement as we negotiated some trickier spots. Although she did laugh her head off when I fell in a hole. All in all a brilliant day - I'd highly recommend it. I'm hoping to get back out to New Zealand in the near future and try a longer trek, which look great.
