yes, once in a lifetime you have to visit a place so untouched it makes you cry, so pure you think you time traveled into prehistory, so peaceful you think you are in post apocalyptic utopia....
I traveled on the Fiordland Navigator with about 60-80 such lucky people - hard to tell, last thing on my mind was to count the people. The weather was beautiful, kayaking super fun, the food was amazing and too much of course. the night sky like I have never seen, literally - upside down Orion, the Southern star, the sounds of the waterfalls you are not even aware of because the mountains look deceivingly smaller than they really are. Shooting stars, silence - we were the only boat in the fiord overnight. and when it can't get any more amazing you hear the kiwi's song from the woods. So special so very very special. I won't give away how you get there , because it's a Jurassic park like adventure in itself. Enjoy. And wake up early to get some dawn pictures.

From the moment we were greeted by Adam and Nel the cruise was just simply outstanding, fresh cooked crayfish for lunch at the begining of the cruise was just the entrée to a faboulous 24hours exploring doubtful sound. We enjoyed Fishing, Kayaking and just sitting around soaking up the solitude of this pristine wilderness. The cabin was very roomy and each has a separate head and shower so we were incredibly comfortable throughout. The only problem was it was too short, I could have stayed for days, the only downside to that would be the superb cooking would contribute significantly to my waist line. Great trip excellent crew well worth doing, I highly recommend it

We had an overnight cruise on the Fjordland Navigator and were blessed with wonderful weather. The scenery is stunning, we were fortunate to see Dolphins both in the afternoon and the next morning as well as Fur Seals, Albatross and Penguins. In the afternoon there was an opportunity to go on a tender boat with a nature guide or go kayaking and then go swimming. The food on board was delicious and very plentiful. The staff were tremendous. If you get the opportunity this should not be missed.

Before I booked this cruise I asked the wife, small boat or large? Small was the reply What a great decision. only 12 people + the crew of two and a trainee. We were picked up from our accommodation in Te Anau and taken to Manapouri for the trip across the lake and then picked for the 45 minute trip to Doubtful Sound. We were welcomed aboard "The Southern Secret" and shown to our rooms (superb) then back on top for lunch of freshly caught crawfish tails as we started our adventure. The evening meal was freshly caught blue cod (we caught it, so it was fresh) and then Lemon Chicken + veg and a beautiful sunset.

Scenery was outstanding, weather superb, the crew were amazing and helpful.the boat was small but plenty of room for our party clean and well presented. DON'T do the big boat trips this is far better

The trip IS expensive but well worth every cent

Most people go to Milford Sound - because there is a road going there - to get to Doubtful one needs to cross Lake Manapouri and then jump on a bus to get to the Sound. I would highly recommend a overnight cruise - with Fiorland Expeditions or another small boat - it's pricey but well worth the money!
