It's a bit of a cheek if you ask me, a mere human being, to review a wonder of nature in which man has had almost no influence. Cliffs towering far higher than any man-made tower make our own works look puny and unimportant. With just water, trees clinging to granite, distant snow-capped peaks and your fellow travellers in view this 39 km fiord is a very special place to visit. If you can afford it, do it. The overnight tour with Real Journeys was our option and I recommend it wholeheartedly.

It was perfect! Not only the scenery, but also the crew (Chris & Tracy), the activities (kayaking, fishing, eating freshly caught crayfish, seeing dolphins and a shark), everything was fantastic! We enjoyed every moment with them on the cruise, Chris showed us all the beautiful spots and told us many intersting facts about the Fiordland. An amazing trip, which I would recommend to everybody! Simply great.

My (now) husband and I used to work in Doubtful Sound (2007-2008) and we thought it was magical. You never get tired of the scenery day in a day out. Yes, the weather can be a little off putting, but I would rather see Doubtful Sound in the Rain than on a clear day. The magic of a rainy day brings out waterfalls and dark mysterious scenes that turn out really well on photos (and believe me, I have plenty!) There are never two days alike in that beautiful untouched wilderness. New landslides, dolphins, penguins, uprooted trees, a new waterfall...

When you go, take it all in. Don't worry about your small room, sharing a table with some strangers, potentially not sleeping well, the price you paid, or even being cut off from civilisation. Don't spend any more time in your room than you have to. Stand on the upper deck, outside, in the rain. Listen to the commentary. Read up on the area before getting on the boat. Take a million photos. Savour the food, and the wine. Go for a kayak ride in the rain and listen to nature. If you're brave enough, go for a dip in the frigid glacial waters. Make it worth every penny! You won't regret it! Talk to the staff ask them what their favourite part is, get an insight on what it must be like to work in Paradise! They won't mind, they're just waiting for someone to ask, because they know they've got a great job!

a overnight boat trip is a wonderful experience to explore the silent and longest sound in New Zealand.

Thanks for all the reviews on Doubtful Sound. Doubtfulsoundcruise.com has since rebranded to Go Orange (Milford and Doubtful Sound day cruises) and have a new Trip Advisor site specific to our products rather than 'everyone'. Wishing all the other operators featured on this site all the best for the season. The Go Orange team.
