No doubt one of the most amazing places on earth. Real Journeys go out of their way to make this tour special. We encountered dolphins swimming along the side of the boat and were taken to the edge of the Tasman Sea where deals were on an island. These touches by Real Joyrneys capped off a wonderful wilderness journey. Don't be put off by the possibility of fog. It adds to the atmosphere and lifts during the day.

my wife and I recently enjoyed a vacation in New Zealand and booked an overnight cruise on Doubtful Sound as a highlight experience. it was rather expensive but by all accounts worth it. We booked with Real Journeys and they impressed us with their service and professionalism. That is until we mentioned the terrible noise throughout the night due to the engine or generator operating all night.

We paid extra for a cabin upgrade that would provide us with comfort and private facilities but as we were to learn that night, our room was right next to the ship's power room. We were in Room 2 on the Navigator, so if you are planning to spend a night on Doubtful Sound make sure you do not book into this room as I can assure you you will not sleep if they run the engine/generator throughout the night as they did when we were on board.

To put it in context, it was like a refrigerated truck parked outside your bedroom window and the refrigerator left running all night. The din was terrible. More so considering we were keen to spend the night on Doubtful Sound to enjoy the promised peace and tranquillity expected of such a beautiful area.

We communicated our concerns with Real Journeys and they told us they would investigate our complaint and speak to the skipper about this. I asked them to let me know the outcome of their enquiry. That was about two months ago and I have not heard back from the company. I suspect this is a problem that will not be fixed and so rather than address the matter, they have gone to ground and just hope no one says too much about it.

My wife and I do not usually complain formally but this was a major disappointment for us. So, if you want to sleep the night on Doubtful Sound, our advice is that you confirm with Real Journeys that your cabin will be quiet enough for you to enjoy the night on board. Other wise, take the day cruise and avoid disappointment. If not for this problem, we would rate this tour a great experience.

Was blessed with fantastic weather and that was all it took to make it perfect.
Included the power station and would recommend to others to do that as well.
Having done Milford Sound and the Glow worm caves this would rate as well as Milford Sounds. Were lucky enough to see dolphins, Blue (Fairy) penguins and seals on the cruise and whilst it makes it a long day the power station was very interesting. Very glad I did it

We did an overnight cruise and stay on Doubtful Sound and it was our equal favourite trip of the whole holiday. It's so much bigger and Soooo much quieter than Milford so you can relax and enjoy the spectacular scenery.
Our weather varied from bright sunshine to heavy cloud but Doubtful was awe-inspiring in both - probably slightly more impressive in its brooding moody clouded phase.
There was a point on our trip when the boat engines were switched off and all passengers were asked to refrain from movement or photography and just to enjoy the quiet and stillness.
Awesome!

Took an overnight cruise with Fiordland Cruises and loved it! The scenery is indescribable and the peaceful energy there truly amazing. Saw more fur seals and dolphins. Really fabulous fun!!
