Overall, this cruise was wonderful. The staff were so kind and very welcoming. The boat is comfortable and has everything you could want. With only 12 people on board, the entire trip was very intimate. We had the opportunity to kayak, fish, and scuba dive. My only complaint, which was a big deal.....they explicitly told us that they could work around dietary restrictions. As I can get very sick when I eat the wrong foods, it is important for me to eat the right foods. We were reassured several times that the dietary restrictions would not be a problem. However, when we arrived, the staff had not been told of any dietary restrictions for anyone on the boat.....and 5 different people had severe food allergies. While the staff said that they would "do the best they could," they didn't actually follow the necessary food restrictions. Therefore, I wound up quite ill, and was unable to properly enjoy the overnight cruise. While I am sure that Richard and Mandy do the best they can, do not go on this cruise if you have dietary issues. Otherwise, the cruise was amazing! Doubtful sound is incredibly magnificent! Truly breathtaking scenery!

Jingleberry, we're so sorry you had such a bad experience. I am very concerned about this as we have coped very well with dietary issues in the past and since and am perplexed as to why the crew could not accommodate you on this occasion. They get written instructions every day which include any dietary restrictions that we have been notified about. Why didn't you tell us about this very serious issue when Mandy met you on the way out? I am so sorry you were ill. Please contact us directly for a full refund. Richard

More remote than its more famous contender - Milford Sound - but 3 times as large and very remote. Rugged natural beauty at it s best without the need to hike for miles.

We took Real Journeys day trip to doubtful sound and spent a day taking in the beauty of a world heritage area. The trip has four parts. A short boat trip across Lake Manapouri, a side trip to the Manapouri power station, a bus trip over a pass to the final part exploring Doubful Sound. I could have done without the power station. The star of the show is Nature - seals, dolphins, waterfalls, mountains, and forests all concentrated in Doubtful Sound.

Next time I will drive to Manapouri to start the tour. I booked a bus from Te Anau but it only added an extra couple of hours to the trip as we went around town picking up and dropping off passengers.

Doubtful Sound was stunning and captivating. Having been to Milford previously we were not disappointed with Doubtful Sound, but rather more impressed by it's size and beauty. We incorporated a trip to the power station with the cruise and were suitably impressed with the scale of that construction as well. Definitely a must when visiting Fiordland. If we had to chose between the Sounds then Doubtful wins however the journey to Milford is quite spectacular.
