“Pleasant stay, good location”

After staying in Kingsgate in Dunedin we expected a similar standard, the room however was not as comfortable as Dunedin our bed was not on legs and was very bumpy. Our parents had a room next door whose bed was on legs and therefore slightly more comfortable. The shower cubicles are tiny built for hobbits I think. On the positive the rooms were clean, warm and covered basic needs for making tea/coffee etc. The staff were wonderful especially Lian and it is in a picture perfect setting short walk along the lakeside into a cute town with shops, restaurants and cafes. Drive to the sounds and enjoy the breathtaking scenery xx

This was the cheapest place we could find in Te Anau but there was nothing cheap about the service or the rooms. Clean, modern and very convenient. Strongly recommend this. They were very understanding when I wanted to convert from one in the room to three!

What a way to spend New Years Eve, in this lively little Town. Nice Hotel a few hundred metres from the main centre. Good clean room. Graeson the night porter was excellent & very helpful. No reason but we did not use the restaurant as had things booked but looked nice

Booked as cheaper than cabin in holiday park at $80/night. Room fine- not serviced properly - not vacuumed, surfaces not cleaned, tea/milk not always replenished. Parking fine- no issues for us. Wifi was free for 20 mins in lobby or $25 in room thought this was overpriced so used elsewhere.
Low point staff who - with exception of male member- we're unhelpful and charmless. Especially middle aged blonde receptionist who works mornings. Please don't be so condescending to your customers!! Won't stay again despite being good value.

My husband and I stayed here for 1 night after our trip to Milford Sound during the day. We booked it through the Entertainment Book so got a great deal of only $117, so for that price we thought it was value for money. We stayed in an upstairs double hotel room and found the room to be all you need for a 1-night stay - clean and comfortable. It wasn't as shabby as what I was expecting. It's close to the lake, which is nice, but we didn't head down there.

Cons were:
- One of the furthest places from the restaurants/ cafes. You can still walk there but in the rain we decided against it. Had it been closer, we would have just donned our rain jackets and headed out.
- Very limited parking - this was very frustrating for us as we had to park our rental car on the back street - security issues.
- Another parking problem - there were about 3 incompetent drivers who parked over 2 spaces each in the main car park (which is already very limited) and when I told the guy at reception this he just said that they didn't provide their car rego details (which everyone does on check-in anyway) and couldn't do anything about it. Ah, how about tow their car away! Or put a note on their window! Or, if you have a speakerphone, tell them to move it immediately!
- To get through the property, there is only a one-way lane. My husband managed to drive around in the morning to the car park (lucky there was 1 spot available) so we could easily load our luggage in, but when leaving a massive tour bus full of Asian tourists (which the hotel caters to quite heavily) was in the way of the exit. The driver wouldn't move forward so we could get out with enough room. The hotel needs to direct these tour bus drivers to pick their guests up on the street where there is plenty of room so as to not inconvenience other travellers.

Overall, I probably would stay here again as the room represents value-for-money, but would be wary about what time f

Dear Reviewer,

Thank you for taking the time to post a review regarding your recent stay at the hotel. There are a few days during the busy season that our parking space available is insufficient and yes it doesn't help when people cannot park between the marked spaces. I apologise for the coach driver not moving forward to allow you room to exit the hotel driveway , we will endeavour to be more forceful with the drivers.

My father and I stayed in separate rooms, but both experienced similar issues. The walls are paper thin and you can hear everything from next door. There was some weird plant / equipment outside the window that made a huge noise every hour during the night, and at breakfast, the staff were surly and unfriendly. Very different to every other experience in NZ! As others have said - no lake view from the rooms, only from the dining area. It's not too terrible though.

Dear Reviewer,

Thank you for taking the time to post a review regarding your stay at the hotel. I apologise for the machinery making noises during the night as we were unaware of the issue until last week and it has now been attended too. Most unusual that the breakfast staff were unfriendly as they are normally a very happy team.

Kind Regards
